I just got done rebuilding an 86' 350x, and have a question regarding the oil cooler/pump. How do I know if it is working correctly? The manual states that the oil level should be maintained between the two marks on the dipstick...but is it better to be more full (closer to the lower marking)? I am kind of new to 350x's. I know you guys are the ones to ask!!!Thanks in advance...

like any dip stick you should keep it to the top line, and by the way full is NOT the lower line.
so you rebuilt the motor and didnt open up the pump to see if its worn...... thats the only way i know to tell if its good.
other then spining it by hand and seeing if oil pumps through it, but how can you tell how good it is unless you look inside.

correct, the upper marking. That's what i meant to say  I opened up the pump assy. and took a look at it - everything looked fine. It worked before the teardown, so i figured it was operating properly. However, the trike seemed to run a little hot after my first ride...just wanted to make sure that i didnt miss anything

Pull the line that feeds the oil cooler, turn the ignition switch _OFF_, turn the motor over slowly with the kicker. After a few revolutions you should have a good idea how well the pump is working.
Edit: On second thought, rather than turn off the switch, pull the plug. It will make sure the engine doesn't fire and also make it a bit easier to turn over. Doh!
