on my 86 tecate i can't get the rear brake to grab hard and lock the wheels or even slow me down at all. it has new pads and all new seals. nothing is leaking anywhere. all the air has been properly bled off. the foot pedal is adjusted to the proper height above the peg. i don't know if when i adjusted it i turned something i shouldn't have or what. seems like it's going far enough into the piston when i push down on the foot pedal, but it just doesn't have the power to do anything. am i missing some other adjustment?

sometimes new brakes take time to wear to the rotor. Also, your rear master could be shot too.
How long have you ridden it and the brakes still arent strong enough?

YOU HAVE AIR IN THE SYSTEM,, if the master is good and the pedal is not bottoming out and it won't stop its air,,, unless you are leaking all the fluid out,,, hydraulis brakes are 100% positive displacement when i bleed brakes i use a piece of old gas line put it on the nipple and route it back into the resevour fill it up and pump away till all the air is out ,,, sometimes it takes along time to get it all out,,,,

You might check if the piston moves, maybe it is stuck in the master cylinder.

i can see everything working right. the piston stops. and i know all the air is out. i've bled it for along time, and it's not my first time doing it. there is some braking power. when i'm just sitting on it and trying to move it while the rear brake is on it feels like they are working, but not when i'm rolling. i might have about 30 minutes to a hour of riding time with new brakes. with no leaks. the front and rear rotors aren't shiny yet from brake use either. i know the front is working good too.

you didnt mix dot5 fluid with dot3 or 4 did you?
if not it must be air or a bad master cly

no mix of fluid. the master cyl. isn't leaking. is there any way to tell if it's bad? i just have this feeling i messed something up when i adjusted the foot pedal. the pedal was touching he engine case when in the normal position. so i had to adjust it down slightly. so i just started turning all the bolts where the pedal mounts, and i remember screwing in the main stud that holds the pedal on the master cylinder. it is definetly moving fluid and i can see the caliper pushing the pads together. from what i remember they worked fine before i did my teardown.
