Did the late '85s and on up big reds already have the cold weather kits in the carbs? Would a '86 carb fit an '85 big red?

Mine is an early '85 250es. Just bought it this year, but dont want to have problems in winter. What is an average price for a '86 carb? I saw a cold weather kit for $75 awhile back. Any help would be great, thanks.

Is there a way to tell a'85 carb from a '86 just by looking at the outside?
