I just got this thing a month ago, it's been flawless until the other night. I was putting around , shut it off and then it wont start again.
It has Some spark. Every now and then it will fire a little bit. It has a newer stator on it. What are the odds of a CDI or Coil going bad?

stators are the common issue with the t3's. slap a tester on the connections and see what your reading, more then likely its bad. 125.00 gets you a new ricky stator stator. one thing i do have to ask, is do you hear any kind of grinding in there? could be the magnets on the flywheel let loose if it is a stock flywheel.

Well she is getting spark, It had a bad connection.
Now it just wont run. I checked compression, the reeds look good, The power valve is moving. I can spray Carb Cleaner through the Spark plug hole and it will fire but when I spray through the carb cleaner it will do NOTHING.
I'm lost fellas.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to but in on your thread but what sort of tester do you guys use for testing the coils and cdi's?

CLean the carb and check the filter that is on the inside of the tank attached to the petcock.

Another thing. . .did you change the plug? You would be amazed at what a bad plug will do.

Check that stator again, It takes alot more work to fire under compression.
fluid locked. happens alot on T3s.
do you leave your gas on? if you do, the needle / seat will let a small amount of gas pass by. it drains down into your base, it won't start w/o a drag start. if you chose to try that route, watch for more smoke after the crank seals get damaged doing it. i use a winch and hang it streight up and down from the frame/ axle. pull plug and exhaust, kick it over slow, gas will work its way out.

check the flywheel key, sounds like its sheared, throwing the timing off, and its trying to run backwards. oh and I got that fender from ya. thanks bro! HH

I would check plug, fluid lock, then carb, then tank/gas line.. I've had fluid lock twice on these 86 motors especially when you keep kicking it and it won't fire (or leaving gas on). Plug will be wet. It is an easy starting point.

Yea that petcock had always leaked.
But I mean I was riding it. Shut if off for 10 maybe 15 minutes and now it refuses to start. It wouldnt kick over if it were fluid locked? Would it?
I'll try this and hope for more luck
thanks all!

Fluid lock would be pretty hard to kick..........
What is your compression reading?

125lbs.
So? I'm getting ready to go tip her over lol
If you are going to put it on the bars, completely upside down, drain the oil. If you are going to stand it up on the front tire you will be fine.
Remember to pull the pipe, might be gas in it depending on where the piston is in the cylinder. I have found my pipe full of gas. I usually pull fenders, tank, pipe and plug. If its not the problem you are 1/2 disassembled lol. While its apart check the stator plug to the wire harness, cerosion can cause them to run funny too.
GOOD LUCK

Well it's official. I miss my 250R. :wondering
I tipped it back over put it some what back together, it fired once then after that nothing. Check for spark and it has nothing. So now I'm assuming that this "new" stator is junk. Back to checking stuff with the meter.
