Howdy,

So, I'm toying with the idea of putting newer, more modern and/or better front forks on my 86 R.

Anyone have some suggestions on what would be some good upgrades?

I like the adjust ability of some of the newer fork designs on new dirt bikes and I'd love to be able to have the same for my R.

Thanks!

Another Florida runner sweet!!

As for Fork design you are going to have to go with the idea of some custom billet trees to fit the wider diameter of an "upside down" or "inverted" fork design off the dirtbikes.

It's been done by a couple different members on here. As for lengths there are some smaller dirtbikes and a particular model that I can't be my thumb on but it's nearly the same length as the 250r's. Those members will def chime in shortly enough.

You'll need to base you new fork decision on your new triple trees that you'll need to have custom made.

Ah I see now. I didn't think about the upside down design being standard now.

I have seen a few posts about custom triple clamps but always thought they were just that, custom for just their machine and not available for other people to purchase.

So now it appears I'll need to locate a source for the triple clamp and coordinate the fork choice with them.

Hopefully the budget will hold up to this route! :)

edit: yeah, another FL rider. I ride in the Tampa "area". So far I've only spoken to one member here that's local for riding together. We haven't had our schedules match just yet though. Definitely need some folks to ride with!

I know a lot about the inverted fork swaps...I done tons and tons and tons of research before I made a setup for my Z, it turned out fairly well for the first one. Ask any questions ya might have.

how much did it cost for you to make the set up for your Z?

About $300 in forks, $80 in powdercoating, and then just a bunch of scrap metal I had laying around here to make the trees. Heres some links from when I first made them out of steel: http://3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=42535

No comparison unless your a stock suspension tuning God which I haven't rode anything thats near as good as the inverts.
