Has anyone ever put an electric starter on a 85 Tri-z? I think you can do it to a 350x Honda but was wonder if that could be done to a Tri-z. Also is it difficult to add a gear to make the 85 a 6 speed like the 86 is?
Thanks

If you want to have a 6 speed I'm pretty sure sure have to change the whole bottom end to due so.. I don't think you can just "add" a gear

As for electric start, never seen a 2 stroke have that before.

You could tape a few 9v batteries to your right leg, other than that i dont know of a 2 stroke with an electric starter either. Plus if its that hard to start maybe the carb needs some attention...

I think I'll pass on the 9v batteries for now lol may interfer with my pacemaker and glasseye. But it usually takes 10 or 12 kicks to sometimes start it. After that I'm too tired to ride the thang.

Something is wrong with it if it takes that many kicks. Just fix it and be done with it.

I've had this problem many times with my tri-z's and I found if its taking that many kick its because the fuel system is emptying itself and when you come to start it your having to prime the system again which is why it takes so many kicks,

What is it emptying into? Even when my Z's sit for a long period of time (which they often do) they start after only a few kicks. If that is the case, just go through your fuel system. I will not say it is impossible to install an electric starter on a Z, just improbable. It seems to me that you want to replace a some what easy fix with a much more complicated one.

On one of mine it turned out to be a spit in the pipe nearest the carb it was fine all day once it had been started but when it was left overnight all the fuel ran back into the tank, which meant when i came to start in the next day it took lots of kicks to get any fuel to the carb,

Soooo, would it not be easier to just repair it? Or am I missing something?

LonesomeTriZ, If your asking me that question, This is not my thread i'm only offering advise, I think the idea of putting an electric start on a tri-z is not the way forward, as you say its a very simple problem that is making the bike hard to start and putting electric start on would be much much more work than fixing the problem.

Oops. I did get the posters confused. I thought it WAS your thread. Sorry about that.

It could be low on fuel. I'll check. When you say a split was in yours, do you mean one of the fuel lines? What fuel mixture do most run? Mine are stock except for one that gas better reeds and pipes. What about a speedometer? Ever been one made for the Tri-z?
Thanks for the help

I have seen people put electric start on cr500 engine in buggies with a car starter to modify the starter shaft so there is no stoper and mount a ring gear to it then mount a starter so it can drive the ring gear..........but probably just dealing with fuel problem like was mentioned

That thing if its right should crank up and be idling with 2-3 kicks TOPS. You may have fuel system issues, ignition, or any other assortment of things but if your able to give it a good solid kick and make the engine make at least 2 solid rotations it should crank up very easily if everything is dialed in right.
