Just wondering if anyone has pics of nerf bars they have fabricated for their trikes. I was thinking of putting protection of some sort on my daughters 125m a few weeks ago like a bigger running board type peg. She had a wet foot slip off factory peg when it was wet out and got under rear tire for a second. Then on Sat. on the start of memorial day weekend I didn,t nogotiate a turn right on my property line and put my trike into the neighbors treeline. Basically hit a six inch diameter tree with myright foot and peg. Needless to say my right foot cushioned the peg and I snapped my 2nd 3rd , and forth metatarsal bones. Leg cast and no paycheck for 6 weeks. Happy holidays! Any way this wreck wouldn't have done this damage on a 4 wheeler and I was thinking if I could form a tube system from front of frame tied in with current foot peg on my 185s it could eliminate foot contact. It was a mistake on my part but I think it could improve the safety of the machine. Any design ideas would be much appreciated. The dr. who treated me in the emergency room suggested I sell the machine, but I am ready to get back on. Thanks.

the way there setup the foot peg is about 2 inches lower and 2 inches back then the stock location, also making the trike way more comfortable, well for my bigg ass any way!

Looks like some good ones. I will go with steel , but those aluminum mods are really nice.

Well after market companies actually made this "nerf" brush guard bars for the utility trikes. There are all sort of different kinds. Here are a few pics of my big reds with different styles on them. Maybe that would give you an idea.

Those are really nice aftermarket parts. Looks like some incorporated existing bolts for for your engine mounts. When I am walking on my own again I am going to have to get the torch and hobart out and do some fabricating. I always worried more about running over a small downed tree and popping it up into a foot instead of hitting one, but oh well, i usually space my accidents out every 5 years or so . I try to help the health care field stay in business!

Nice!!

Seems like there are plenty of ways to make nerfs.....

I take it you weren't wearing your riding boots?? DEEPA likes to ride in sandals, looks cute too

I had on my steel toed 8inch leather work boots. ER dr. said toe doubled back and broke bones probably. The orthopedic surgeon said it was good I had steel toes on because it probably saved my joints at toes.

If anyone makes any Nerf bars like Scott's for a 250es, please make me a set and we can share the construction cost.

My son loves to drive my Big Red more than his 4 wheeler and I would like to make it a little safer for him.

Those aluminum ones were good, but I think I will copy a design like those on the big reds for my 185s. The 125m of my girls will be a little harder because the frame design reminds me of the 70 not a full frame if you get my meaning.

Well the 2 main larger systems I have bolt onto the foot peg bolts and at the motor mount, outside bottom bolt. You have to get longer bolts to make it thru the tubing and into the footpegs and frame. If need to, I can get measurements and closer pics.

Here is a pic of one set I painted before installing..........

Wish I had a tubing bender it would help fabbing a bunch. I've heard people say fill tube with sand before you heat and bend and it won't collapse , but it would be hard making two the exact same. Thanks all for pics and ideas.

I wish I knew how to make the nerf bars. If they shot me for being a fabricator, they would be shooting an innocent man! :) Heck if they shot me for being a fabricator, mechanic or carpenter, they still would be shooting an innocent man. :(

I personally would not care if they did not look the same. As long as they offered protection and were easy to install, I would be happy.

I am in the process of making some for my trike. I started them using 1-1/2" exhaust pipe. I have access to a bender at my shop, so it works best for me. I am trying to make it easily removable and integrated with a mount for a plow I plan on building, so I am in the "planning" stage right now.

I agree, I have had a couple of incidents the past few weeks that could have been a lot worse. If I make any progress I'll post pics.
