I think I used JP1 fork tuner when I did the 86 250R a few years back. Felt kinda soft to me. I'm planning a restoration on the 85 and was wonder what people thought about fork oil. I'm changing the fork seals and getting the frame painted to start off my resto.

I've only used Bel-Ray oil and have had good luck so far. If the forks felt soft, you could've drained the oil and added a heavier viscosity oil.

I still may do that. Problem is I don't remember what I put in there. If I search hard enough I may have it written down or have a receipt somewhere. That's why I asked what people are using. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one with a 250R on here. What are you using guys?

JP1 is good oil. I run 10 wt. Stay away from oil not designed for forks. It has additives to keep the seals soft.

I just did both set of forks on my 200x's. Manual called for ATF or 10wt fork oil. I used ATF. I had a couple of full quarts, and it is way cheaper than fork oil at the local dealership.

I've always used atf in all my forks.

when you say atf do you mean automatic transmision fluid. Thanks

Yes, regular ole Dexron 3 is what I use. Keep a gallon of it in the shop.

Thanks guys, I have never tried the ATF and was wondering how it worked. Might go that route.

I've used ATF for the past several years...in most stock forks the reccomended amount seems to be a little on the soft side for me (about 200lbs) so I add a little extra if necessary.
