Tri-z Fuel Pump Question

If a fuel pump goes out does it go out completely or can it short in and out? Is it either a work or don't work issue or can it start shorting out back and forth before it finally goes completely out?

It's been my experience that it goes all or nothing on the tri-z. I have bought rebuild kits from yamaha for about 30 bucks and never had a problem since.
