SAE 20W40 SE/SF is what the clymer manual recommend. Any motorcycle oil for use in wet clutch system should be good though.

Yamalube 20W40 would be good

I have the same bike. Use yamalube 10w40 for engine and tranny, and use yamaha 80w for the rear diff. Make sure you clean out the screen behind the oil filter. Never use any oil in the motor that has a molly additive because it will mess the clutch up, so just stick with yamalube and the motor will last forever properly maintained. If the bike has not had a tune up in a while it would not hurt to clean the carb jets and the wet type air filter.

get a manual if you can, it wouldn't hurt to look over the engine sometime and adjust the valves and timing chain tensioner
