ater talking with T3 LOPES out at silver lake i was informed that a KX250 cylinder and power valve is a bolt up option for more hp on my T3.....so i need to know what years are interchangable or which ones are better than others, thanks

I'm 95% sure its the 84 and 85 KX motors for the 86/7 T3's...

Second get t-3's and 86 kx 250's use the same cylinder. No difference. What is different is the exhaust valves, governor, and shaft that controlls the exhaust valves. No power increase is realized by just cylinder swapping like earlier 84-85 non P/V engines. It's the components that are different.

gotcha i must have mis-understood him,i thought he was saying that the porting and timing in the kx jugs where more aggressive and i would benifit by changinhg to that set up:confused:

83-84 kx 250 cylinders fit the 84-85 tecate. the 85-86 kx250 is the one for the 86-87 tecate. but like was already mentioned, the 2nd generation t3 wont feel as much of an upgrade as did the first generation t3 with the swap. alls thats different is the powervalves. if you have it ported and polished then you would feel a bit of a boost. the reason why the first generation was such an upgrade was because there was a bridge in the exhaust port on the 83-84 kx cylinder as opposed to none on the t3 cylinder.

after 86 the bore changed on the KX so you can't use them.

The '85 KX cylinder is different and may offer different performance than the '86 KX/KXT Cylinder... Better or worse I dont know... The '85 kx cylinder has a bridged exhaust and small subs like the '83-'84 KX cylinders...

I would have to think, that the reason for the change was to prevent the tendancy of seisure on the exhaust side. As far as max power output, the bridged exhaust has a wider exhaust and would probably evacuate a bit faster. And the bridge allowed designers to "tune" each side of the port. So the bridged exhaust may have a bit more max output potential. I'm currently assembling a 86 kxt engine with a sleeved cylinder. Not what we wanted, but it will work for now. We have a NOS 85 KX cylinder that will be used next year. But, finding all of the exhaust components is the trick. Many differences in all of the parts. So the search goes on, and we will find out sooner or later about the performance difference.:naughty:
