I bought a 1985 Honda big red the other day and coudlnt help but notice when driving at high speeds sometimes the wheels seem to want to lock up :S im not sure whats going on there, its also over-heating a lot, is there anything i could do about this? I've never had a 3wheeler before :wondering

check your oil, engine and differential...and the bearings might be going out causing the wheels to be...twitchy.

its also over-heating a lot

Mine doesnt overheat, but the engine does get VERY hot!! Its hotter to the touch then the exhaust most of the time. Its got new oil and its not running lean or anything like that, but Ive noticed that it runs at a way hotter temp then anything else Ive had. Anyone else notice this or know why it is?

If the owner recently changed the oil and filter, one thing to check is that the oil filter was put in the right way. I have heard of oil filters accidently being put in backward and causing a lot of over heating or engine failure if ran long enough.

I guess if I had to compare, I would say that my BR feels like it runs hotter than my other trikes, but it could be that massive motor that close to my legs!!!! LOL

My Big Red does seem to run real warm too. I recently had a rear wheel locking up problem also, my pinion bearing grenaded and was letting it flop around and get caught up in the ring gear. Hope the same isn't true for you!

Have you checked that the brakes arent dragging? I had an 86 250SX that had the rear brakes dragging causing the motor to run hotter than normal. You couldnt touch it after a ride. After I adjusted the brakes, more power and a cooler running motor. :beer

It sounds very reasonable, what year is yours? Im going to take a look at it tommorow, just needed some things to look at, also poster above about the breaks dragging, i will check that too. I think the big reds would be alot better with liquid cooling though, the motor gets some hot!

I also have a 200 es and had the same prob with the "locking up" I started ripping apart things and found that my liner had separated from the brake shoe. I geuss I caut it in time cause all I had to do was rivet the lining back on and I was rollin' again...... literally. 475 bucks for 3 new fenders but thats another story
