Looks like I've got myself a project

Heya's all, new trike owner here.

It's not much to look at, and I really don't know much about it, but I tend to collect projects to work on. Picked this up free from a neighbor that was moving and didn't want to haul it with them. Any info on it would be great.

I know it's a Yamaha, and it's got Shaft on the seat, but I cant find any other identifying marks on it.

From first looks, the brakes work, but it's missing exhaust, carb, rear fenders, and recoil starter.

Is it worth fixing up?

It is an 83 - 85 225 DX. Looks like a project alright, but like they say...Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

My project started out like yours and I have got it up and running, it was a .KLT 250

ah, so if i do it up right, I can make it look pretty decent. Are parts still availible for these? I know i saw some yamaha stuff on ebay.

My machines were both basket cases when I got them. With patience and cunning deviousness half the enjoyment of these things is learning how they work, searching for parts, fabricating things you can't get, and having a machine that will be the envy of all quadders - and you rebuilt it yourself.
There's probably all the info you need on this site, so roll your sleves up and enjoy.

I went over to my friends and did some digging around where the trike was sitting, and managed to come up with the recoil start and exhaust for it! Upon further investigation, looks like all I need now is a carb, and an ignition coil as far as mandatory parts go. And lots of TLC.

Just a heads up on the carb. You don't have the right intake boot on the trike right now. You have a '83 YTM 200 boot not the YTM225 one. You should be looking for both the carb. and intake boot. The carb. should bolt on to the intake, not clamp on.

well if you want my carb *Edited**Edited* in luck because i have a spare 83 225 carb boot i just found it yesterday in a milk crate in my garage pm. if interested if not i will keep and use some day.
