Haven't got to paint the bottom of the frame yet...need to be getting to that but I'd like to have something that matches at least half ass well and thats been pretty hard. Powdercoat sometime, no idea when  I need scoops and a new # plate for it (syko's gonna hook me up with that I think, hes da man :naughty:) Get those on there and I think it'll be pretty sharp.

Infinitely faster then my old 270R. The 500 motor is geared probably "2 gears" higher then the 270 with the same ratio 15/36 and it pulls way harder then the 270. Hell the 450s that are so built they are scattering themselves all over the track every other race are getting pulled by this ole pos hahaha. Of course they stay on the throttle into the corners longer then I am (for now, hehehe) and end up blowing by me that way but on the straights its extremely competitive.

Shhhhhhhhh! Dude that thin stuff is hard to weld  You can see the 3 sections in the middle I screwed up on the worst, those had huge gaps around them that had to be filled. Most everything else fit together pretty tightly and didn't require any "stacking"

Do you have one exhaust spring holding that pipe on?

i would love to set my bike up like that for some fun!!! You should be able to kill the 450r's on the straights.

here is a vid of me killing one :beer

i let eric gorr port on the cylinder some and it smoothed the hit out some and gave me some more topend. I plan to get a radar run in a couple days to see what the top speed is.

At the cylinder? Yes, because the other tab in the casting broke out. The pipe is bolted in 3 other places and isn't going anywhere unless something breaks off (which has happened twice already, nice vibration eh)

Basket, its real easy to set one up this way. I love the way this thing rides and feels, just because of how it is lowered. It half tempts me to lower the trail riders and stuff, maybe not as much, but just more then stock, to get a better feel out of them too.

if you look on the bottom of the pipe there should be another spring loop. there should be a "L" shaped bracket with two holes bolted to the lower exhaust flage bolt. Look on service honda's site for a pic. I used a 520 chain master link and bent it like a "L"

Hmmm. This cylinder originally had a little aluminum loop thing on the bottom of it under the exhaust port behind the flange that it hooked into, but I was stretching some slightly to short springs on it and ended up pulling it out. That must have been something somebody made, never knew that.

After seeing pictures like one, THIS (http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s100/HondaATC/September2007003.jpg) I probably should be (note to self, do not go out in practice with 3psi in the outside tire) but generally, na. You just keep em at high enough pressures theres no real chance of them coming off unless you do something like I did in that above picture.

Billy Golightly
05-15-2008, 10:15 PM
Yeah raffa those are regular old short track shrouds. Alan (syko) leme have them on the condition that they be used to make some repros when I get a chance and I do intend to do that. The test to see how much of a racer it really is will be in a short 2 days, we'll see what it does down there at Ocala on the 3/8 mile track. I'm expecting 85-90 mph on the straights, lets see if I can get it there :) One of these days I will tear the thing down and P/C polish/chrome a bunch of stuff but at this point its more of a runner then a looker so it sorta suits itself :)

Wow Billy, that looks awsome! You gonna be racing it at TF this year? (duh lol)

Billy Golightly
05-15-2008, 10:21 PM
lol, I'm not sure. I'll have it there to putter around with hopefully but I'm not sure how competitive it'll actually be in the drags.

Bryan Raffa
05-15-2008, 10:23 PM
I knew you had the shorttrack kit on that..them shrouds just look bigger..maybe the front tire is giveing that effect...dont brake them before you get copys..ha. that is no Jinx, so dont blame me if you do LOL

Keep refineing it and Racing it ...get it Honed in for the track and then Bling it!

Good luck and go kick some teeth in:)

Hey Billy, that swinger stock length? I don't know, just seems a tad longer, that or it's the new stance that is throwing me off haha

honestly looks like a 2 over...once you factor in the 16inch tires, they seem to be sticking out a little far out back.

90mph in the straight stretches....i think i need a 500 conversion gentlemen.

Billy Golightly
05-16-2008, 10:02 AM
Nope, its an 86 stock swingarm that was chrome plated. Nothin extended here folks :) And honestly it doesn't even need the extension, even with it still being a 500 I bet I could run a -1 and it'd be manageable with the way I have the suspension setup.

05-16-2008, 09:23 PM
Billy, that bike looks like a true racer!!! The engine looks as If It was born their lol.

The frame's shape looks great, and the pipe. I like It he he.

Billy Golightly
05-16-2008, 10:49 PM
Thanks Jason...I think it did turn out really well. The pipe will be getting a make over sometime, not exactly sure when but it will sometime in the future :)

Piston detonated and then tried to seize to the cylinder, stuck the rings at the race over the weekend. Trying to track down the cause of the detonation right now as I don't believe it was jetting related because there were no signs on the plug of detonation that I know of.

I feel confident I was running in the low to mid 60s on the slow end of the track where the radar gun was...on the far side you could open it up a lot more because it was sort of a odd shape. I had to be bouncing 70, maybe a little bit more over there. The track was a lot drier then I and a lot of people had anticipated, and it wasn't until the main when I blew it that I was comfortable enough to stay onto the throttle coming into the corners. By then there was enough rubber laid down that it was gripping good enough.

I've got another cylindered pretty much prepped and I think ready to go using a stock bore piston laying around I had, ended up having about .005 piston the cyl clearance which is good enough for me for the time being. I'm holding off my re-assembly until I can repair a crack I found in the frame at the bottom motor mount already (not very encouraging, however I think it was to the fact when I welded it the mount bowed outwards, and as it was tightened to the motor it pulled it in to far and stressed it causing the crack because the other side is fine). And I'm also going to try and get some paint on the bottom of the frame as well. Gonna be a fugly sob with a probably black bottom portion of the frame and the rest of it the oem red but hey its temporary.
