Maier plastic on 86 200x-exhaust too close

I just put some new plastic on my 86 200x and see that the rear fender sits too close to the exhaust. I dont have the wire support brace on as the fenders didnt have the little 'tit' thing that the OEMs did. I dont want an ugly hole on the outside of the fenders like the little instruction book that come with the fenders says. Did anyone use this brace without drilling a hole? What is the best way to keep the fender off the exhaust? Make a little heat shield or...? 1st pic is it hanging naturally. 2nd pic is me holding it an ok distance from the exhaust. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You don't like the "custom" fender made by the exhaust? Mine is melted because somebody put on an aftermarket exhaust. Don't they make an aluminized heat insulation that sticks to the plastics? I had a CBR1100XX Blackbird that had some on the inside of the belly fairing to keep it from melting. Don't know if you could get it at a dealer or not.

The 200x is suppost to have fender supports, but Ive never seen one with them. On mine I make some out of aluminum flatbar and used heat tape.

You need to make up something to support that fender. On the 350X I used the stock support and rubber grommets.

On the SX, I used the support rod with the angle brackets and button head stainless screws go through the fender. It doesn't look bad at all and it can't ever rust.

I bought heat tape from Summit Racing for mine, but havent put it on yet. Whether or not you plan on using a fender brace, I would still invest in some heat tape. I noticed my plastic is a bit close to the exhaust can as well...
Ive got Maiers on mine as well with a DG RCM...

Can you just get a soda can, cut it in half to make a heat guard? Yeah it might be ghetto, but it's amazing what you can do with a soda can.

if you have the wire/bar support for it, just put some rubber stoppers/corks - couple bucks at a hardware store - on the end of the bars and run it. I did this on my 400ex and it worked fine.

I like that idea. I think Im gonna get some beefier rod and bend it myself. Hopefully itll turn out ok. Ill post some pics afterwords. Thanks!
