I recently purchased a 85 big red, and read that the early 85's werent the best at starting in cold weather. How cold is cold weather? I heard or read that the later models( late 85 on up) had that problem fixed. Did they make a carb kit or different jets to fix this problem? Or was this problem a fable. If it wasnt does anyone have the kit or jets I would need to rectify this problem. Mine is an early 85 model. I dont want to wait till winter than have to deal with it.
Thanks

Well the "cold start kit" can be bought at a honda dealer if they still have them, as now the part is discontinued. The Honda dealer part # is 06161-HA0-305.
There is a good write up on .ORG as I didnt find it on here >>

I was also told by others that Drill the starter jet out to .080 and it will start in zero degrees..... Take the bowl off and it's on top and pressed in. Just make sure to get all the crap out after drilling, put grease on the drill bit.
You could also find you a carb from an 86-87 250ES big red or 250SX or 85-86 350X and it would take care of that cold start issue.
