I just picked up an 84 Tecate 3 that has a bad rear shock. Will the rear shock from the 85 bolt right up to the 84? Figured I'd ask here before I ripped them both apart to find out they don't fit... I got them both as a package deal.
Is there any where to find out what parts are interchangable between the two?

Also, can I pull the front end of the 85 and put in on the 84?
The 85 has disc front brakes and 84 doesn't...

Thanks in advance.

84/5 are pretty much the same as far as i know, i've seen plenty of 84's with the front disc brake setup installed, i would think its safe to assume it will fit without major modification.

Not sure about the rear suspension, i would bet the shocks are interchangable but i know for the later years the rear end has to be all one year. Like an 86 will work on a 85 swingarm but you need to use all of the 86 hubs and carrier. Someone that knows more may chime in and prove me wrong. I just started my tecate project this past week...

The shocks will interchange . If you looking for a good rear suspention you should use the 85 pivot point and a 01 raptor or 300 ex shock on the rear. All tecate shocks were junk then and even more junk now. The front end will bolt right up. Next you will want to upgrade your brake system.

i believe there was a difference in the length of the dogbone. one was longer then the other or something like that. but even so, get yourself an adjustable one and your all set. as far as i can remember without pulling out the manual, the clutch set up has a few different components. the pushrod is longer on one of them, and the discs and springs are different. the entire front set up is interchangeable, which is a major upgrade in itself, and as far a shocks go, i agree, go with either a raptor or 300ex shock. slight mods, but worth it.
