I wanted to see what the largest tires & Rims you would run on a 1985 Honda 250 ES Big Red? And Why?

I am planning on doing medium mud riding, creeks and trails.

Thanks,

Killer

I would say 12'' rims possibly with 25'' tires? I would run a 10 or 9'' rim with some good 22 or 24'' tires though, 25s are big.

Pretty much every bigred, 200m, 200e..etc around here runs a 25x12x9 tire. I wouldnt go anybigger becasue i think it would just hinder its performance

The ES came with 25" tires and it's geared lower in the differential to turn them....

Well I believe someone had a set of either 26 or 27" mudlites on their big red and they looked beefy. THe lites are a great choice for larger as they are lighter than most mud tires and wouldnt cause as must strain on the trike.

lite tyres make a huge differnce, i have a big heavy tyre on the front of mine atm and she hurts my back to pull wheelies, but with the thin original balloon style tyre on the it pulls the front up no probs

I had 27s 489's on my big red on 11 inch rims, the front was a 26, everything worked great and it went through everything.

Should I be looking for a square sided tire or a round sided tire. After reading another thread, someone said that a square sided tire would keep the trike from getting up on 2 wheels as often.

Unless I find a pair of cheap rear rims, I think I will stay with the stock size of 25x12x9.

Thanks everyone,

Killer

Good to hear 27's fit, I just ordered 27x12-10 and aluminum Itp rims for the back of my BR. I already have a 27x10-12 Mudlite on the front and it is excellent, rides way better, steers better too (I have the tread backwards to "collect")

I got the 27" for $13.22 each:naughty: Brand new.

I have a picture on my phone of a Big Red I seen with 29.5 Outlaws on the rear & a 28 ITP Swamplite on the front, he had the rear lifted 2" & the front had 5" added to the front forks, it was very nicely done.

You gotta get a 26 or 27" tire for the front too. Works really good and would look great on that bike Like I say, mine a 27x10-12 and fits with no problems at all.

I have an '85 200m, and the stock tire size is 25x12x9, the same as on a 250 BR, and I run 25x13x9 tires on the back. They are a little tight to the muffler, but the performance seems fine.

I have a 12" ITP Alum rim for the front but havent got around to buying a tire for it yet! I Also have 2.5" Alum wheel spacers in the rear, that is by far the best thing I have done to my Big Red.

I've got 2.5" spacers on the back of mine too, and that makes a huge difference! Way more stable. Looks better too

I have 25/13.5-9 Vampires on mine now and they go places, work really well in snow too. Can't wait till I get the 27's though...
