i want to put a big bore with a cam 400 ex exhauste and carb will it be wirth it, and 425 any one done this

look over at L.A. sleeve...you can go a lot bigger than 425 I think.

from what I understand though, unless you have a different head on top, you won't see drastic gains. 3-8 hp with full port work.

then again, i'm quoting others, cause i'm in the middle of a build myself.

i went with a 452 and ported the head myself and it was a huge difference my engine was a nos engine and the bigbore smoked the stock clutch within the first few miles...

a 452cc is 92mm....thats getting big

i used a xr500 sleeve in my 350x cly and this way you just use xr500 pistons of your compression choise

the early xr500 sleeve is 89mm and thats 423cc or 460cc with a stroker crank

this is the cheapest way to go for a do it yourselfer like me

i tried the xr 500 route and the deck hieght on the piston was way off did you have to shorten your rod??

yeah i forgot that.....but im going with a stroker so they will shorten it the extra amount

but you could still run a cly spacer


oh and a 400ex carb is to small IMO

i thought of a cylinder spacer but then the cam chain wouldnt reach i dont think...maybe

i know what your saying, but i think with a old stretched chain a 3mm spacer wouldnt be so bad

in no way is a 450 carb to big .....they are 39mm-41mm or so

i want to put a big bore with a cam 400 ex exhauste and carb will it be wirth it, and 425 any one done thisunless you're willing to get some good port work and maybe bigger valves I wouldn't go too big. The last 452 I raced with my 400ex was not that impressive. When you go 100cc over stock you'll be fighting some major flow starvation.
