Hi,

Does anyone know if a 85 tecate rubber intake boot (carb to engine) will fit on a 86 tecate ?

i was wondering that too. part numbers are different but they look identicle. same with the reed assembly. different part number but i don't know the difference. the only thing i can think of is if the 85 had a smaller carb and smaller opening on the boot.

The shape of the 85 boot (left and right side) is not identical to the 86 but it looks that it could fit ... ??? and yes the 85 carb is smaller (32mm instead of 34mm for the 86) but does it make all the difference ? I hope some one will be able to answer.

Are you sure scooteroo, I've been looking for one for ages and have almost bought 85 model ones but been too afraid just in case the holes don't quite line up.

I also noticed that some KX500 intake manifolds look very similar also. Anyone fit a KX500 inlet manifold onto a 86/7 T3. Those boots are staight and they are made for a bigger carby also.

Could be great because with the stock airbox we don't have any other choice that a straight intake. I will check the kx500 intake on the web and let you know what I think.

I have a KX 500 boot and it is not straight. IT will send your carb to the side and will not work with the stock air box. You would have to run an open filter.

I agree with ovhonda1 the kx500 boot I saw on the web was not straight. But maybe it's a model year issue ... I don't know if KX500 of the eighties had straight boot...

Mine were KX500 boots from 86 and 87 both. They are both angled. I used a product (I can't remember the name) that coats the handles of tools with a rubber material and repaired my boot with a fine brush. It is now flexible and works great. You can usually get this stuff at any auto parts store.

The product is called Plasti Dip but I think there are other similar brand. Anyway that's the best alternative to a new boot.

I wasn't trying to give you guys a bum steer

Here are two photos I stumbled across on another three wheeler site. The author of the thread stated that these photos are of his Tecate KX500 conversion.

The pictures show a straight inlet boot.

This is what made me think that there were staight boots on some KX500 model years. Is it a KX500 donk?

Cheers Guys

P.S. Scooteroo you didn't reply

My fault. Maybe I had an 87 and 88 boot that was angled. good to know that the 86 was straight.

Oupsss sorry ozquad44 all credit to you too of course. You are great guys. Problem is that a 1986 kx500 intake boot is even difficult to find that a tecate one (in Belgium anyway).

I have an 86 and an 85 boot from a tecate kxt.. The mounting is the same. BUT the inner flare or chamber to the intake is larger on one of them. I've been trying to figure out what boot will work the best on the 86........:(

The 85 chamber is bigger than the 86.

Its too bad the newer angled intakes dont work on the 1st Gen's... The stuffer intakes seem like a good idea imo... Kawasaki spent 20 years making the reed cage volume smaller for a reason...

On the left it's an 85 carb boot and on the right one 86 carb boot.
The difference is in the inside

That's an awsome idea, mang. I've been racking my braind trying to figure out a solution to the impending boot issue for some time now.
