Well I'm tired of buying used brake parts just to find out they need rebuilt or are on there last leg. I wanted something new! So while i was surfing ebay looking for brakes, I remembered that most all single piston calipers from honda were about the same along with the mounts so... The gears in my head started turning and I started looking at the new CRF/XR Pitbikes and the front brakes are just about a direct bolt on just need to make the bottom caliper mount hole on your fork leg a little bit bigger. Well that solved the front and I still needed the rear so i started looking at the rear brakes on the Pitbikes and noticed they were dual piston calipers. Well after wanting to upgrade the rears as well I ordered the rear brake system as well and it works awsome just had to make a custom bracket out of stainless steel. I have some pictures so here ya go. I used the complete front and rear systems and they work AWSOME. If anyone wants to do the dual piston rear caliper upgrade and want a template for the bracket I can take mine off and trace it for you. Sorry for the long post heres those pics!
Heres the info from the site:
Up for auction is a NEW brake setup. This setup is highly compatable with XR's & CRF's with disc brakes as well as almost all pitbikes and chinese import bikes including 50cc, 70cc, 90cc, 110cc and 125cc's also with disc brakes. This assembly is the whole package and will include the master cylinder, brake line, caliper, lever and brake pads.
good idea man! but you need to cut and paste all that info from that item as after awhile this thread and your linc will be usless

Hey I've been lookin for rear brakes for my machine for quite some time. I got the disc brake mount on my new swingarm so I'm definately goin with disc as i planned. Hey definately get that template on here. I wonder is there anyway a guy could scan the mount or something and send it 100% size and use the paper as a layout or was that what you ment.

that is an awesome find. I've been having the same issue with old 83 250r brake parts. either they're worn out or close to it. I am definately interested in the template you have. and the fact that they are dual piston instead of single is even better. How can i get that template???

Well I have no idea if the bracket I made will work on the 83-84 or not. but if you still want it pm your address and I will send it out once I get time to take it back apart and trace it out!

will do, i figure it's worth a shot. if not, it may be close enough to modify and make it work. even if i have to make my own, the brake set up is a key find.

Those prices are so cheap it's crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know it's all China crap made by people getting .10c an hour but do you really think the stuff will last??
The China quad my buddie bought for his son was complete junk, we ruined half of the moving parts in half a day
Can you get quality pads for that stuff? or a rebuild kit? I'm sure it won't last 20 years though....
It is a cheap and quick way out but I'll probably stick to rebuilding my old stuff or adapting newer Honda parts. You can get a 450R rear master for 40$ and the caliper is about 90$ which of course is WAY more $$ and incomplete but I just haven't heard good stuff about these cheap knockoffs. Anyone have any other input or experiences??
Did you guys see his other auctions? How can you sell a complete aluminum framed pit bike (minus engine)for 600$ with the stuff on there?? I has to be all junk, it just HAS TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I plan on buying one of those kits but just for the master cyl and stainless line... hell thats cheaper then a rebuild... I may go ahead and order 2!

I hear what your sayin, the price is phenomenal!! I'm just not sure about the quality or availability of rebuild parts.
Strange that the whole setup is cheaper than just a couple of rebuild kits
I may just adapt one onto the ATC 70 for a custom front brake :w00t:

i will post some pics when i get a little more done to it. its been sittin in the shed since i did the brake job. i still need to finish my tank, get new white plastic, a seat cover, some new rear tires, and a piston and ring kit for my 300r cylinder and she will be ready to go. not much but all big money items. but the brakes for sitting as long as it has still pump up and hold as good as the day i baught them.

Quick question, think I could mod this up for an 86 200x? and in the auction pic for the rears, that line looks short, is it long enough for a 200x or do I need longer?
200x newby
10-15-2008, 10:38 PM
honestly i have no idea. you could take a chance as long as you have some fab skills. thats what i did just took a chance and it worked. i dont see why not as just about all the trikes with single piston disc brakes were the same or close enough.

10-15-2008, 10:42 PM
I think I can manage getting the caliper on there, and the master too, it's just that line looks a little short for it. Does that thing has the resivor built in?

ok back slightly to this thread
what about using this? (not brake related)

I may buy one and see if it will work or not, sure beats spending $300+ for some of the other ones... hell its cheaper then just a new cable!

i was looking at those also but the question that ran through my head is why buy what i dont need? Now that the money is flowing back in i may take a chance and see if i can rig one up to the 300r and 500r.

links should be posted just do a search for pit bikes(xr50, xr70, crf50, crf70) brakes. you should just have to enlarge one of your front frork brake mount holes. refer back to original post for details.

for the 83 and 84 250r's you can use a rear caliper from a kx80 dirt bike. the calper itself bolts rite up to the 250r rear steel bracket + it uses the same pads. should work on the 82's also. then you wont need the adaptor for the daul piston one and looks more original. no modding just bolts rite up.
we did this to my freinds 84 atc250r so i know it works.
the kx 80 rear caliper works the same for the front brakes also. i did this to a 85 200x i had and a aircooled 250r uses the front caliper also.

i see your point about being new stuff . Just figured i'd say about this stuff i figured out since it's just a bolt on and gives another option. They wont have to make custom brackets. you can find 05-07 80's being stripped on ebay.
has anyone tried to midifie the china brakes to work on the 83-84 r's?
