well since my fooler decided to throw out a piston i rebuilt the whole thing from the ground up. new crank bearings, gaskets, seals, 300 kit on top with new 76.44mm piston and kit, port/polish, pretty much everything new or redone.

got her all together, and on the 4th kick started right up, and just purrs. i put the br9es plug and the 135 jet up from 130 that the original honda kit recommended. i also added more oil to the mix.

question is, how long should i break it in with the extra oil before i start back on my regular mix?

the carb was tuned really well for the 250 top. it appears to run really well now but should i have to make any drastic changes for it to be top notch?

I would run 1 or 2 tanks of rich premix, change the plug, and then run it normally. There are conflicting opinions as to how you should break a machine in, some people say ride it like you stole it right from the get-go (I've heard the argument that doing it that way helps seal the rings tighter), others say you ought to stay off the wide open throttle for 5, 10, 20 hours and let it slowly get used to running. I personally am not informed enough/smart enough/stupid enough to recommend a certain method when I have no experience with it, so I will leave that to the engine builders here on the board.

I personally have had nothing but reliability with my engines after I rebuild them by mixing the oil a tad rich for the first tank and just putting around for a while. A little burst of throttle now and then is actually good for it, but don't keep it redlined for long, it's just common sense.

Hope you have good luck with your fooler!

i let mine warm up once, then hop on and ride it. ill take it easy on the throttle for about a half hour, stayin around 3/4 throttle at most. then i start to let it wind out for a second once in awhile, and just gradually ease into hammering it.

have had it apart about 3 times in 4 months for different problems, none of which were top end related. havent had a problem yet.

I use the exact same premix as always...32:1... If you want it to run rich put a bigger pilot in it... this is the breakin method i have been using:

Why wait until the top-end is half worn out to actually ride it?

glad to hear you got it going again! ive done many meathods of breakins, my racer went from rebuilt to the race track in like um....30 mins and it held up fine, the blaster was heat cycled a few times and it has been going strong for the last allmost 3 years, so...either way dosnt seem to matter much, just make sure its got good gas, good oil and its not to lean.

Get on it and ride it wide open till it breaks then it's broken.... lol don't do that.

Do what the others said. Ride it with pre-mix make sure everything is seated good for a tank full not holding it WFO the whole time. Should be ready to rip it up after that.

Heat cycle it 4 times. Let cool completely, RIP! :D

I would go back to your normal mix right away and go for a 30 min ride taking it somewhat easy utilizing most of the RPMs (low mid high). You don't want to make it grunt and you don't want to make it scream. After that half hour you're done, it's broke in and you can do what ever you want with it.

thanks for the help. with the new 300 head on it, it is definately stronger but when it hits about 3/4 throttle, it takes off like it had a nitrous shot. is that normal ? i mean it is really a sudden jump. or does that mean that the main is good and the needle needs to go up a notch?

i know it is runnin with a lot of extra oil right now, should i run out the heavy mix first and then worry about adjusting once i get back on my normal mix?
