Hey guys, I rebuilt my entire top end on my atc 110, new valves, seals, piston w/rings. compression is outstanding now, however it fouls plugs. after 1 minute of running it gets fuel fouled. Black and dry carbon on the spark plug.

So i decided to rebuild the carburetor. Just started it up today after the rebuild and still fouling plugs very fast. i mean it still runs but VERY sluggishly. I do not want to mess around with the "stock" settings for the carburetor, because I have already tried that and no matter what, if i put the needle one clip down from stock settings, it fouls quicker, or if i drop the needle it overheats.

Anyone know how to fix a stupid problem like that? I'm stumped

Sounds like your timing chain is off 1 tooth or the valves are improperly adjusted.

I thought about the chain being off, but it still does not make sense to me. i took my carb boot off and it blows out a mist of fuel when i punch the throttle for a sec. im confuzzled:drool:

I agree with 200xman.

Intake valve too tight or timing is off. The piston is causing the fuel to blow out as it travels up in the cylinder. Recheck your timing and valve settings and set them to what the manual calls for. You do have a manual, right?

It's not stating anywhere about how much the valves should be adjusted though.

Look in the spec table at the very beginning of the book. Usually the complete specs for the bike are there. You're looking for .003"-.006" rough range.

Alright so i took the cam cover off and the screw off that plugs the flywheel so i can see the "T" mark when it is at top dead center. Well i checked it and everything is dead nuts, and the valves are in spec. Could it because the air is too cold and it is richening it? its driving me bananas!

Sounds like its definitely a carb problem.

check your flywheel key. are you sure the timing and valves are right?

I just checked my valves and my timing again this morning, everything is within specs. i even took the spark plug out and brought it to top dead center by eyeball, i checked the hole to see the "T" mark and that was in the right location, and on the timing sprocket the O lined up with the v mark in the head.

-The air screw is turned 1 1/8 turns out, if i turn it out more that is supposed to lean it out a tad, right?

the air setting screw should be at roughly 2 1/4 turns out

ooooooo you know what. The CDI base plate, i need to time it using a stroboscopic timing light to adjust that. It is not only the timing chain that i need to align. I have to adjust the air gap between the pulse generator, and rotate the base plate in either direction to tune the timing. i believe that is the problem. and in the manual it says the air screw for 85 atc 110 is supposed to be 1 1/4 turns out. where did you find 2 1/4?

its 1 1/4 to 1 1/2

yeah i thought so. btw on the flywheel, in the indicator hole to see the "T" is there an "F" also?

Never mind, note to everyone out there, dont time your wheeler off the F mark on the flywheel. The T mark was all rusted so i didnt see it so i timed it off of what i thought was the T but was actually the F. Wow i am suprised it ran i cant wait till tomorrow now to fix it lol
