Im going to be putting new rings on my buddies Yamaha 200. Couple of questions. Can you buy rings for the Yamaha piston and if so is the oil ring replacable? I want to use the orginal piston beacuse I don't want to bore it out.

yes the rings and oil rings should all come together..and highly recomend honeing the cylinder so that the new rings will seet properly..your lookin at about $30 for a ring set

Ok guys help me out. I pulled the head off. During the disassembly, I noticed the bolts didn't put up much of a fight. I also noticed the gaskets were in pretty good shape and the top of the piston was clean. It looks like its already had a rebuild. I haven't cheacked the seals yet, but if I can't find a problem, I'll go there. It was burning oil pretty bad. What do you guys think I should do? Could I take it to a shop to measure the cylinder walls, oversize piston?

Has the cylinder been honed or is it glassy? What about the rings, do they feel sharp? Any scratches in the piston or cylinder? Are the ring gaps all lined up or staggered?

yes take the cylinder to a shop with the old piston and see how worn out the bore is..someone could have just threw a new piston in it .. with out a bore..what kind of piston..OEM or wiesco..? dont forget a top end gasket set..

It looks like the original but its very clean. Definatly not a Wiesco. I don't really want to bore it eithier. It does look glassy and there is some scrathes on the piston. Its my buddies trike and I don't know if he really want to invest that much, but we'll see I guess.
