Does anyone on here do "good" machining work" My ATC500 (CR500) head is warped - I need someone with skills to make it good again.

It got warped when I was getting the part welded in for the decompression release. I have trid sand paper on a piece of glass - it is just too much.

Need advice here guys! Need this done ASAP!

I lapped and I lapped - but it is still leaking. Was looking to send it to a board member - you know - keep it in the family.

Let's see a picture of the head. I could do it if I had a way to fixture it. I've ground a few heads in my time on a surface grinding machine. Machinist for 12 years in the tool & die/stamping industry.

If Ronnie can't or doesn't want to do it - I'll get hold of you Trizilla - then smvorndran is next in line. It will have to be taken down a very very little at a time as piston clearance is super crucial at this point.

Ronnie can hold .0002 tenths on most heads. Thats just silly flat.

Ronnie did the head on my 500 tim and also re-domed it. I just talked to him this evening and it sounds like things are getting a little bit better at his shop where he'll be more available for "special" projects so you might drop him a PM.

I would have it done locally... considering how simple the procedure is, IMO it would be a waste of money to mail it twice... unless you plan to rechamber the dome I would drop it off at a local machine shop... you might even get back the same day..

I don't trust many people with work like this. Too many - "ooops - we didn't know" jobs have come back to me in the past. Just the fact that I have all the investment into this of the decompression release built into the head - it is a "One Off" head.

Ronnie came through for me - and he obviously knows what he is doing. Thanks to all for the suggestions and all though.

What is all this talk about decking anyway? What does that mean? I have heard the term - but am unsure of what it is.

I really don't need anymore power than what it is putting out right now. It is sick - for anyone who has ridden a 2-stroke 500CC trike - you know what I mean - it has more than enough power as is!!!!!

Same as milling, shaving, cutting, etc..

So what are the advantages of decking? I only need this done to true up my warped head.

Decking cuts material off the bottom of the head, it trues and flattens and also raises the compression levels because the dome of the head will then be closer to the top of the piston.

but if it gets rechambered you can retain the stock compression also and you can also dune the squish band also for diffrent types of power by the way the chamber can be cut. and if your runnign a 500 and i woudl strongly coincider o- ringign the head also dependign on what year motor it is?
