Before ya'll call me names for being stooopid... i'm new to 2-stroke atv's... :wondering

Just rebuilt the top end on my '84 250r.
Went with a .75mm over weisco piston.
It had been run with an incorrect gas/ oil mix before i got it. Not pretty.

I put it all together & it cranked on the 2nd kick.
I was riding around my yard in 3rd gear at half throttle, to get it up to operating temp for the first part of the break-in. It ran fine for a few minutes, & then died, felt like you hit the kill switch.
I haven't had the carb apart, so i'm assuming it has trash in a jet or something.

I'm looking at a replacement carb that's the same size, but has the 'power jet'.
Will this work okay? How do i need to jet it, compared to the old carb without the power jet? Is a 30mm carb big enough for an air-cooled 250 with a slight overbore?

Here's a link, & thanks for any advice...

Also, it is still firing & has good compression. Thats why i'm assuming its the carb.

Are you sure its the carb? Did you check the plug? Is the plug wet from fuel or is it dry?

Plug is dry, & i put a new one in it just in case.

Dammit!

If the plug is dry it's just not getting gas. Could be something as stupid as a clogged petcock. Clean everything out before you go spend money you may not need to spend.

yup. i agree, clean out the petcock and. take the carb off and give it a quick blast with some carb clean and run a new fuel filter.

no need for a new carb unless it worn or something isacually broken... unless you want more power:w00t:

Pet cock flows fine. I actually had to put in an inline shut-off b/c the petock wouldn't shut off all the way. I also put a new filter & new fuel line on it. I took the tank off & rinsed it with clean gas/oil.

Guess i'll pull the carb off later. The carb looks like the float needle may not be sealing. It seeps out the overflow.

I thought for the money (only $70), i could buy that carb intstead of buying a kit for the old carb, which may still give me problems.
