hey guys i got a lead on some supposidly nos 350x engines at a local school. I finally got ahold of a teacher about it and mentioned that i heard they had some "old atv motors". the guy said "if they are the ones im thinking of then he cant sell them. If he sold them and honda ever found out then we'd get in alot of trouble. They donated like 20 of them and we had to sign papers saying we wouldnt sell them.".

i personally saw like 4 of them on a shelf, 1 had the cam out and the head off and the other 2-3 looked to be complete but has some scratches on the side cases (probablly just shelf wear). My question is was there a time frame on how long schools couldnt sell these motors? Did those papers expire in 20 years? I am trying my hardest to pick up these engines but im sure its gonna be tough becuase of these "papers". If they had 20 of them at one point then why did i only see like 4?? they had to of got rid of some of them somehow at some point unless they have more somewhere else. Any ideas on how to get around these "papers"??

I'm in the same boat, when the ban went into effect the honda shop ( that I used to work for ) donated a bunch of Big reds to fish and wildlife. A friend of mine who became a game warden actually got one of them instead of taking a fourwheeler. There are still 4 more in the crates!!!! But they won't even talk about selling one.

we were wondering about them "scrapping them out" maybe? say they are junk and "throw them out". If i can get him to sell them to me i WILL make it worth his time.

Honestly I don't think honda would care one way or the other. It's just that people still have the idea in mind of how " illegal " 3 wheelers still are.

honda didnt care in the first place if you ask me. they had to dump these engines and rather than scrapping them, being the awesome company they are, they donated them for schools so people could learn something about them. They probablly had to have schools sign that paper just for legal purposes.

 :w00t: ya know i got to thinking, whatd they do with the rest of the machine when they cut them up? I've just always looked at it like they cut the frame into scrap and donated the motors to schools and that was it. What'd they do with fenders, brake calipers, seats, gas tanks, etc...??

All the other hardware on the chopped frames was probably sold as normal parts since they were still brand new. But Ive heard people say theyve seen some of the cut up frames that still had lots of hard parts still attached to them. Who knows, only Honda would be the one to say for sure.

Obviously the papers say you can't buy them, even if you avoid that, if they are going to scrap any then you could get them free, a nice teacher might do that, and it might not be prohibited?

Hey if the teachers cool with it he could "scrap" them and put them beside the dumpster on a "certain" night of the week and they would just be gone the next day:rolleyes: . You sell off the motors/parts and donate some back to the school, everyone wins and no one is in trouble.

DID YOU THINK OF THIS???? ask them to DONATE them to you and you will make a charitable donation to the school its a win-win situation they well prob. never scrap them but if they DONATE them to u for say i dont know you wanna teach inner city kids how to rebuild motors or some garbage like that! just my 2 cents! and eric 250R where are these 3 wheelers in kentucky what if an out of state person showed up and they suddenly dissaperared???

I saw a 350X motor and a 250R motor in the Fishkill Prison's small engine shop. The Voc instructor was a real cack when I asked him about them.

Buy a used engine out of a newer 4 wheeler and ask the shop teacher to trade. Tell him now that the students have seen the inside of an engine they can move on to repairing.

I got the same run around after finding a school with liquid R motors and I thought he said 110 motor.

Just gotta wait for that instructor to retire, next one comes it, doesn't know the rules and will either sell them or toss them.

I can't understand why Honda didn't use the 350x motors in 250x frames seeing as how they are basically a direct bolt in.

There was 1/2 a liquid R on ebay awhile back, some members might remember it. It was cut somewhere around the foot pegs. No fenders, I remember a very nice looking swing arm, axle, shock and air box maybe, supposedly it was from the ban.

yes, we have all heard the stories about the 87 350X’s and 87 250R’s getting chopped up, and the engines donated to schools. So could it be possible that they are 87 350X motors? IMO highly unlikely, but possible, if they even existed. just a thought.

anyway, yea try to get them. like someone else said they could be "junk" or "too outdated" and thrown out on a certain night, and then just disappear some how.;) please keep us posted.

All I have ever seen are 86 and 85 350X and 250R motors.

But oddly enough, no 87 200X or 250SX motors - EVER! I really thought all the 85/86 R's and X's would have sold??

Since the teacher cannot "sell" them maybe instead he could "donate" them to ya... and in exchange you could "donate" some cash to him or the school... Or maybe you could "donate" some newer engines to program in "exchange" for the old ones...
