I just got a 85 250 SX for $153.00 on ebay .My son and I want to get it running and in good shape .The biggest problem is the rear swing arm has play in it .Where can I get new swing arm bearings and how hard are they to change .the fender latch is missing the spring ,can the spring be replaced or do I need a new latch for it .The 250 is over all in good shape but it needs new handle bars ,wire harness (the one in there now is chopped up)left side brake assembly and a right side rear mud flap .Do you think $153.00 was a good price for it .If anybody has any tips on doing the rear swing arm bearings please let me know .I have a manual for it .I will take pix tomrrow of it ,the swing arm and the seat latch .....Thanks for any help you can give me .......svo58

*Edit* Chris let me know that the SX doesn't have a pivot bolt, you learn something new every day...
Sounds like a nice project, and a more than reasonable price if the motor seems like its tight. As for the swingarm bearings, i dont know anything about them.

There is no pivot bolt on an SX.
There's a few good write ups already done. (do a search) about how to replace the swinger bearings. Not that hard at all really. I think I still have a ton of pics from back when I did mine. (if you need more help)
I disconnected the top of the shock.. loosened up the rubber boot on the drive shaft.. with a small prybar or screw driver push the driveshaft back so it's off the splines.
Take off each dust cap on either side of the frame (where the swinger bearings are.) On the right hand side there's a wierd adjusting nut thingy.
Loosen up the outer slotted nut first. then use a bigass allen wrench (or somekind of home made 15mm bolt )that will fit in there and take that completely out.
you'll have to angle the swinger a bit to the left so the little tit on the left side clears the frame. should come right off.
Alot of guys are gonna tell ya to use a bearing puller for the old swinger bearings. I tried and couldn't get it to work... so I just cut a slot in them with a dremel and small cutting wheel. (being careful not to mess up the frame too much.)
When you order the bearings be sure to order those two caps that block off the inside tube as well.
Let me see if I can dig up some pics. :naughty:

AHAAA!! I didn't mean to sound like a jerk dude.. sorry. :beer
I think you gotta take that adjusting nut out before you disconnect the driveshaft. Its been a long time since I did mine.
here's some pics. I can't remeber which ones are which.. but the first one is that weird nut and the last one is that tit a was talking about that has to clear the frame on the left side.
Edit: I forgot to mention that you'll make life so much easier if you got a buddy around to help ya. esc. putting that swinger back on.

One thing I will add is when you put it all back together put the top shock bolt back in. Makes life SOOO much easier. Put the tit in then connect the shaft, and remember when you go to put the driveshaft back on it is spring loaded so you can push it back 2" or so and easily slide it on.
