how can you tell the difference. What is the size of the braring carrier?

The brake mount peg on the 86 is about 2" away from the carrier. thats about the only difference

they are.


the 85 has what looks like a bolt welded to the side and the 86 has a slide on the side.

X2, the 85 carrier is smaller.

I have performed an 85 to an 86 rearend swap, and the folloing parts are different

Axle (at least the sprocket hub)
Carrier (smaller)
Brake caliper mounting bracket (goes on carrier)
Brake caliper slide (bolts to mounting bracket on carrier)

The brake caliper slides can be interchanged, the 85 one just has the extra little bit for the torque link

It would fit but be sloppy as hell and the bike would rock like the bearings were worn out :wondering
