Got the skin from DC plastics today. I think it looks sweet. I had the decals so decided to put them on it. Gonna try to get some mounted pics this weekend. The green looks just like kawasaki lime as far as I can see and it's not super dull and has some shine to it. I should have more info and pics this weekend. Here's a few pics of it for now.

I just sent him a junky 84-85 tank. If you send a real nice one make sure you tell him you want it back. I didn't ask for mine to be returned. I don't know if his mold process would hurt a good tank. Great Idea getting one for 86-87 for sure.

Justin that looks really good. Are you going to epoxy it to the original tank or will it stay attached with no epoxy? My camo job is fadding fast so I may have to get me one of these. Chris

I don't know if epoxy would be so good. It has holes for zip ties. I was thinking about running the zips down the inside of the frame rail side. I will be more detailed when I mount it. I looks like it might work good with a tank bag under it as well, If anyones worried about scuffing and/or vibration. (not sure if moisture would build up between the 2 but...
It also fits and looks bit bigger then stock but so far I'm impressed. I'm a bit worried about how the front by the frame mounts going to look when it on a bike. However the tank bag under it seems to be an option for those worried about color. I guess we will see this weekend.:beer

Does anybody know if they make these for the 85-86 ATC250R's? They would probably make bank with Black, red and white covers for our Faded and crappy tanks.
Oh and if you don't mind me asking.....How much was that?
Dammit!

You can easily restore a faded R tank. That oxidization is only on the surface. They don't get discolored like the tecate tanks do. Plus you can buy aftermarket R tanks.

Im gonna have to get one of those for sure for my Tecate. I hate it when people check out my Trike and the ask why I didnt get a new Tank when everything else is new. The last NOS tank I saw on E-Bay was like 3 years ago and it went for over $400. I have an extra tank that was painted and bubbled up so I can save my good tank from getting scuffed up from the skin. I figure on putting on some of that felt stuff onto the old tank in spots so the skin wont rattle around and all that. I have it on parts of my frame where things rub up on the powder coat and it works real well.
A big thanks to Hadar and D.C. Plastics:w00t:
Where did you get the Tank Stickers? Thats a definite with a new tank skin.
Can D.C. plastics reproduce the 86 Honda 200X headlight shell or is too hard of a part to make. I figure they could sell a few hundred of those no problem.:beer

T-3 Team,
Just spoke with Don @ DC, he is very interested in doing the T-3 skins for the second generation T-3's but wants to experiment with 2 separate styles before he starts mass production. One skin would have the shrouds made into the skin, no stock or aftermarket shrouds would be needed, just install it on the stock tank and ride, Brass insert problems solved? The other type of skin would be just like the one that Hadar just received, you would use your existing T-3 shrouds. Using a tank in good shape would be a bad idea for the mold Don had commented, so my T-3 tank is not available, I'm kicking myself for selling a banged up one on eBay a few months back! Also we need both shrouds, could be fair to poor condition for the mold. Does anyone have anything they might want to donate or sell at a reasonable price? Time frame on production if he received the parts in the next few weeks would be Late May early June. Let me know what you guys think? :w00t:

these have bin made for the trx 250r for ever.....moisture is nothing to worry about and on the R the gas cap holds it tight but sometimes you need to put 2 rubber seals in the cap since it will be held up some due to the thickness of the cover

I'm very intrigued with the idea of a one piece tank skin including shrouds. I can imagine it looking awesome depending on how much detail he puts into the pseudo-shrouds, and of course how durable they are. I hope someone with the extra tank/shrouds will help out on this and send them in so that we can get a look at the concept. It could certainly rock.
Please pass along my grattitude to Don for his time and effort to hook us dinosaur riders up.:beer

I have also been in contact with Tony at CeetRacing about the 86/87 tank covers for the tecate. He says that nothing is in stock but he thinks that they still have the pattern lying around. He wanted to know how many I needed and I told him that I would find out after getting the approx cost, how many orders needed, details/materials. After he contacts me with this info I will post it and see how much interest we have here on the boards.

T-3 tank is on its way priority mail, (Thanks Gus!) I have the left shroud, who has a beat up right shroud? The sought after right shroud can be cracked or broken as long as it's all there. Stay tuned.

I agree, So does anyone have a right shroud that they could donate, or has one been located yet? I would throw down if I had one.
Still gonna get some pics of the 1st gen on Sunday. Stay tuned, I'm putting it on the 84, I think.

I'd prefer one without radiator shrouds because I just bought brand new ones from HornetPowersports, and they are great !

Someone have a right shroud to help get this off the ground? Cracked, ugly, broken is okay as long as it's all there.
Even if everyone's just got ahold of a new right shroud(and I'm going to get a couple of hornetpowersports' right shrouds just to keep for the future), this is an opportunity to have an option that we've never had before. If we let this go cold, DC's might not be as eager to help us out in the future.
All I have for a right shroud is a cracked/ugly repaired Maier. I don't think a Maier patterned right side and a Kawasaki left will produce the best result.

Well, It's mounted and it looks killer. Had to try it on the 84 and 85. I would not reccommend useing a tank bag under it. Looks fine wihout it.

I would think you would want the front secured because it could rattle around alot on the sides without it.
I hoping that the decals hold up ok. I would like to get some 85 style decals with the blue and white stripes. Sombody used to have them on ebay but I havn't seen them in years. I can tell you guys that the pics gon't do it justice and IMO it looks much better then the old "tank sack" I had on it before. All in all I'd say its a valid upgrade.

Why not just start with a shroudless design for starters? It might look less original as an all one peice skin. I think Hornet still has nice reproduction shrouds for sale. (mega props to him for that) Ahh, I can still remember the good 'ol days of the right shroud of doom. Be patient it will happen. Sounds like a right shroud is needed for the other design but i don't see why he couldn't get started with just a tank and a left shroud for the smaller skin.

Heh, you might look into auto mounting tape next time, it's what holds those crappy plastic bumpers onto cars, but it's super strong, would've given a more clean look for sure, either way, that looks great!.

so is hornet or DC making the skin? i thinking the same thing as hadar. start with just the tank skin. by the way whats the deal with the right side? does is get caught the most and get ripped off?

dc makes the tank skins, hornet powersports makes the radiator shrouds and headlight shroud. nobody sent him an 86 style tank yet? hmmmmm, gonna have to go digging thru the parts and see if i got one laying around, im not sure but i know i do have another green tank in my parts collection, just not sure if its 1st gen or 2nd. have no clue as to what the deal is with the right shrouds, my guess is kawi never made enough? or their count was off when they did? who the heck knows!!!
