Anyone ever change the universal joint in the big red driveshaft.
Can hear mine bind everyonce in a while and would like to change it before it breaks and cleans out the shaft?? Anyone switched one of these before, have any pointers? Know what size he joint it??

I honistly have never replaced one. My sx is very similar and don't think it's meant to be replaced. I know it seems hard to believe. I think dirtcrasher and jswinehart have lots of info and experience with the big red-sx driveshaft setup.

If you can find the correct u joint, I'm sure it can be replaced. But, you have to find a new way to secure it. Realistically, if we all love these dam things as much as we seem to, the day will come that the driveshafts dry up and a ujoint will have to be installed.
I think any drivetrain specialty company may have something close or something that needs a slight over bore to work etc etc.
Honda uses a press that distorts the bore and stops the joint from backing out. Inside circlips (not unlike the yokes on some cars) would hold the caps from coming out just fine. Even a rude and crude pin punch could probably distort the bore enough to retain it in the housing.
For now, we look at used shafts. And there are still plenty of them around that are like new. Look for the shiny coating down by the seal and pinion area and you probably have a low hour driveshaft.....
