That would probably be good for starters. For your first ride, a Tri-Z or 250R are probably not the best choice :) Make sure you're comfortable with the handling of three wheels before you get too crazy :) And if the 225DX is in good shape, $600 isn't bad at all. But it always helps if you haggle and get it for cheaper. Don't worry about not knowing anything, all your questions can be answered here :beer By the way, welcome :welcome:

my buddy has a 225 dx and its sweet, lots of low end and decent speed. For 600 id get it for sure

also the 225DX is a good choice because you have electric start, rear suspension, and they seem to be good for all around riding

yep, 225DX should be a good choice. that or something like a atc110, atc185, or atc200 series.

DX or a 250sx is probably your best starter trike. personally i dont like the dx because it feels longer and easier to tip. But there are lots of people on here that love 'em, so buy it and go ridin'!

What type of riding do you do? Do you have experience on a dirtbike or quad? How big are you?

well quad riding skils are useless on a trike, other than the clutch/shift/brake.......its a whole new ball game :welcome:

Quad skills are better than dirtbike skills because those clowns love to put their feet down - and then run them over, lol....

I would buy a sport machine... a 200x, 350x, or 250r... the heavier, poorly suspended, balloon tired machines are more challenging for a beginer to control IMO... I think its easier to learn the clutch than it would be to adapt from a quad to a 3-wheeled basketball...

ok humph, im looking round now on sites and stuff tryign to find something local because where im under 16 cant drive to get it myself so my gaurdian has to be coperative.. thanks for tall the advise and im open to all sugestions. also, is the 225dx rear suspension upgradable? also, i dont really love the front end of the 225dx.. is there anyway i could interchange the front forks of a 225dx with a tri-z?

I grew up riding on my cousins dx, it was a great machine. Towards the end before he sold it that thing was blowing oil like you wouldn't believe (looked like a poorly mixed 2 stroke) but it never lost any of its low end torque. In my opinion thats a good way to go, its pull start/battery i believe the blue ones have reverse.

On the other hand i'm a big fan of the 200x's they are a very low maintence machine as well. You get a clutch and a smaller lighter machine that you can make do what you want more easily. I'm 6'2" and just under 200lbs, the X was a little cramped so i upgraded to a 350x but i had the 200X and rode it 75% more than i rode my 250R just because i didn't have to do anything to it but change the oil and put gas in it...

I've owned a couple of 225's and liked them. My ex-wife's first and only 3-wheeler was a 225 with wheel spacers and a Bassanni exhaust....if she could learn on it, you should be able to.

The pros:
-torquey, reliable motor
-great wheelie machine due to the torque and the rearward placement of the motor
-comfortable ride as long as you don't hit the rough stuff hard

The cons:
-not a speed demon
-rearward placement of the motor makes hill climbing a thinking man's adventure
-limited amounts of suspension means no big air without big regrets

With regards to the YTM225 vs. ATC250sx........one's as good as the other as far as power/speed/suspension/reliability goes. I've had both and I'd say the better choice for play riding IS...........

ATC200X. I'm going to look at another one for myself this weekend.
