ok so i have an 85 200x i have 22 inch tires on it know with the gearing of 13/40 i was looking to get some new tires for it and dont want to get 22s so i was looking at some 18s but then my buddy who knows his sh!t when it comes to 3 wheelers told me it would slow me way down and i wouldnt like them but i was wondering if i changed the gearing to 13/35 would that pretty much even it out i will i still lose speed or should i just get 20s and leave the sprockets alone

go up a tooth in the front and down 3 in the back, it will make it right around stock.

I'm sure there is a formula that con figure it out dead nuts, but who the heck has time for MATH? :wondering
The guys have you in the ballpark for speed and I must say that 20" tires make a huge positive difference in terms of handling on any of the ATC's. :w00t:

i'm running 14/35 with 18s and it's cool. I may go to a 15 tooth in the front as i crave more speed. get this..my lifan came with an 18 tooth on it.

im running a 14/30 set up with 22 inch tires. the 22's are going and i bought 20's for it. i figure it should have enough speed even with the 20's to keep me happy.
why dont you get 20's instead of 18's ? it will help you keep your speed a little more so than the 18's plus if you are going to have to change sprockets it could get real costly real quick. i payd 30 bucks for my front 14 tooth and around 60 bucks for my rear 30 tooth. put that on top of the cost of tires. id go with just tires and see if i liked it or not. if not replace the front one first since it cheaper to buy.
if money is not an object and have plenty of it....buy the sprockets and tires then.
the only reason i bought them was because i needed them.
just my 2 cents

14/30 is awfully high isnt it? I have 14/35 an its great, front sprocket was 12.00, rear was 26.00

You don't have to change both sprockets to bring the ratio back near to stock.
Switching to 20" tires from 22" tires, and changed neither of the sprockets will lower your top speed in 5th gear at 8,000 rpm by 4.5 mph. To about 46 mph, on flat ground.
You're top speed will be lower, but you will have more torque, torque is fun, and torque gets you out of the hole sooner. So think about that.
Putting on 20" tires and changing your front sprocket up one tooth to a 13, will give you back the stock gearing.
Have you made any mods to the engine? If you've done things to up the power and or torque of the engine, then you could think about gearing it a little higher for more top speed, but if you haven't you may not be able to get into top gear anyway because you don't have enough power to turn a higher gear.

i have a pipe on it and a bigger cam so do you think i should just put the 18s on it with the gearing 13/35

for some reason they had to special order my front sprocket because they claim :there isnt a such thing as a 14 tooth front sprocket for a 185s/200s motor" so i ended up having to wait 2 weeks to get it. as for the rear sprocket i told em to get me a good brand 30 tooth rear. so they did lmao.
as for the gearing ...it works pretty good. my motor does good with that gearing. not to mention it hauls butt for a little 200.

If you put 18s on then 13/35 gearing would get you back close to stock, a little faster than stock. It would do fine with that. With the pipe and cam you could go a little higher in the gearing also, get a little more top speed. Either 20's with 13/35 gearing, or 18's 14/35 gearing.

well you have to realize that he 200x gearing is too damned low to begin with. they should have come from the factory a bit different.
