I picked up a 1984 Honda 200s that hasn't been started in 5 years. Ran when parked and gas was drained when parked. It has spark and good compression. Going to try and start it later today. I cleaned the gas tank, (had a little rust) took off and cleaned the carb, (all jets are clean and open), float bowl is clean, changed the oil and cleaned the screen, and put in a new spark plug. Anybody have more ideas or advice before I try to fire it up?????
Thanks

Not sure on that model if you can pull the spark plug and look inside the cylinder to see what it looks like. Maybe squirt a little wd-40 or something similar into the cylinder, not alot, and kick the bike over slowly with the spark plug out, to free things up, maybe pull the valve cover and get some lube into there also and make sure they are opening and closing before you fire it up.
Alot of work, I know,
or just fill er up and hope for the best. It a Honda it should be fine!

It should fire right up . As long as you have spark and fuel. These bikes seem to run forever. Does it have good compression?

Compression seems good. I don't have the right adapter fot the spark plug hole but the recoil starter doesn't pull real easy and when I took the spark plug out and blocked the plug hole with my finger it blew my finger off the hole.

A little starter fluid never hurt. Spray a little in the air filter under the seat. My 200s starts like that in the cold.

i don't think thats a 200s then if it's got a kick start. They were all recoil from what i recall.

Maybe its a 200s with a 200x motor in it? Or maybe its just a 200x?
heyketz Post a picture of this 3 wheeler if you get a chance.

I always throw a drop of oil in the cylinder. Gear oil, motor oil, tranny fluid, anything to help lubricate.

Sorry, it doesn't have a kick starter, it has a recoil pull starter. Don't know what I was thinking. Brain Fart.........

It sounds like you are a lot more thorough with your pre-start rituals than many people I know here in Nome.

I was going to suggest putting a teaspoon or so of oil in the cylinder, but since you have already turned it over checking for compression and spark I dont know if it be any use anymore. It might still be a good idea though just because it might take a bit of turning over for the gas to wet down the carb and make it to the engine.
Another good idea would be to pull the valve covers off and put a few drops of oil on the valves and guides if you can.
Also what about the oil in the tranny?? Is it 5 years old too?? If so, I'd give it some fresh stuff soon and check the oil filter. Other than that, just the normal stuff like like bearings, seals, cables, brakes, etc....
Good Luck
Rusty
Edit-I just saw you stated you changed the oil and cleaned the filter. Good Man. (sorry lol)
And Check The Air Filter Element!!! Dont want to be suckin dirt in becuase some mouse made it nest in there!!!

Tooks a few pulls and had to tickle the choke but it fired up and after I blew the cobwebs out of it, ran great. Ran it for about an hour with no problems. Thanks to everybody for their input, you guys RULE!!!:beer :beer :beer
