Good morning all,

when I get back from work later this morning I will be attempting my first mod on my "82"200e. What I have in mind is changing the front end with my "84"200x (currently not running). It's my understanding all I have to worry about is steering stops. I also want to use my wheels from the x which are almost new, and they are 22's instead of the 25"s that are currently on there. But do to different rim sizes I'll need to use my x hubs on my e axle I was told this should work, so I'll know for sure when I try it. I will post before, during, and after pics when I get started. Anything I'm missing,or if you have comments feel free to voice. Thanks.

This mod really interest me, I think the fork on the 200e are a very bad design and after 25 years the chance they work properly are void.

LOL I got a little done but once the sun went down it got back below freezing and I got no heat..... BUT i have made progress :pics: :pics: :pics: of course the book wants me to take pretty much everything apart but me being who I am I'm trying to keep as much of it together. i have to get this done soon now that the e is taken apart otherwise i won't get to ride:cry:

the book says i should have 21 1/4" bearings i got 18 with a little gap so I'm thinking some jack arse has already been in this thing and replased with wrong bearing size:mad:

the stem on the 200x is larger diameter than the 200e. the races from the 200x wont fit in the tube on the 200e.the steering stem of the 200x wont fit in the races of the 200e. Sooo it looks like this mod attempt is a failure.

I thought this was supposed to fit.... maybe my years aren't compatible ?

if anyone knows something i missed please let me know thanks!

May I ask why your disassembling the 200X anyhow??

Can't you get that beast running??

bigred1
02-24-2008, 12:34 PM
Well the 200x needs a top end at least (it has like 90psi) also it spits oil out from shifter shaft and needs bearing in swingarm .....

I am wanting to go to the trails today and was hoping this swap would not be to difficult lol  :( and thought it would be a fun temporary or maybe permanent swap i could always find another front end to the x

Okay so I'm not quite gonna give up yet.... if I can figure a way to get a stem pipe custom made maybe this will still work. does anyone know what three wheelers have different steering stems maybe ones already made?? if you can take some measurements that would help .. i'm gonna break out the measuring devices and see what I come up with. it just needs to be a little skinner and a little longer than the 84 200x pipe. can someone refer a member with access to machine shop equipment? I will be willing to pay for the piece if you don't think it will be real expensive. I would like to be able to make this work. Thanks again

Cut the stem of the E and weld it on the X. Problem solved.

Or take your 200E motor and stick in in the 200X. Voila, AutoX with much better suspension than the 200E ever would have.

I'm gonna check on pricing for a custom steering stem, I'd like to keep my other parts original and untouched if possible (just in case). I'll update later and let yall know what i come up with. and thanks for all the feedback.

Well, I hope you a have a machinist friend. That stem has a few critical journals and a very fine metric thread for both the adjuster and another for the locking nut. It is not a simple part to make......

No one around here will work for less than 70$ or more an hour and that has to take a couple of hours, if a stock piece of tubing can be found that requires less machining.

You may want to start plugging away at that 200X, much more fun to ride too!!

HEY!! :Bounce

If your hooked up, we've got quite a few members that need some custom aluminum tripple clamps made to accept upside down forks. They are more than happy to pay someone with the know how and the equipment to back it up.

Is that something you could help out with??

well first let me correct a previous post about my wheels the hubs from the 84 200x DO fit the 82 200e axle. i searched a previous thread of mine and it was swigin that told me they should fit but in my haste i did not properly check so my appologies there and thanks again swigin for the input :beer now second i have not got an answer on custom stem for the front end but i'm still looking into that.

for right now though i will put my 200x wheels on the 200m that i just got running again:w00t: .lol so at least i have a toy to play with untill i figure out the 200e.

:) so many toys so little time and money:cry:  pics of the 200m shortly.

That M looks so much better with those X tires. I just put a set of X rims on my 185S.

yea i do seem to have a bit of a wobble though but i thinkl its in the axle. i'm deffinately going to keep an eye out for a couple more sets of these hubs i think they are an awsome upgrade for any hardtail. even though its a utility trike it really adds a sportier look to it

okay while i was on . org just a bit ago looking for more input on this front end swap the same thing was mentioned about cutting the stem and using it, as i have said I didn't want to permanently change anything and i was about to say as much when i had a SERIOUS brain fart.... I just realized I'm sitting on three hardtails and it just so happens the reason i got my 200s was to use the tripples for my 200m cause there bent so then I says well if there bent i should just cut the stem off the200m and use it. I can't believe this whole time I didn't even think of using my 200m. I knew ther was a good reason to keep all this extra stuff.

bigred1

welded the 200x and the 200m stems together using a steel rod pressed into both stem tubes for added durability, and turned down the 200m collar to match the inside diameter of the 200x top tripple

next i'm thinking of putting on my 200x hubs and getting 12" rims and 27" mud tires. I've heard that it would be to much tire but as I don't intend for speed I want this to be a mud machine. and if I use an open self cleaning lug pattern and with some engine mods i think i will be able to turn them over good enough

Nice. I think it will look perfect with a headlight and a front fender.
