So what do you guys think of the honda atc 200x. I think they are weak and overrated. ( A.K.A The trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro trike- MR ATC) but still fun. Thats for the 83-85 200x's. How much better are the 86-87 200x's? -D

Whats weak and over-rated about them?? for a 20 year old machine they seem pretty good.
Size/power seems pretty well balanced.
i own the 1983 model and i find it too have lots of power a decent amount of torque and it sounds nice and is v. reliable a good all round trike

The 200X is a nice machine for trail riding. Besides that I felt that it was under powered. I was happy with it until I got a 350X, then I realized that the 200X power was designed more for my son or my wife. They were content riding it while I was always trying to get more out of it. I finally sold it and got the wife a Blaster as she too out grew the power of the 200X. The machine is in no way a bad machine for a 20 year old design, but I would not call it anything spectacular. Back in the day though it was considered an awesome mix. How the standards have changed!!!

As much as I love my 200x I would have to agree about it being underpowered. But I think that may have been the audience they were trying to reach at the time. I had a 110 before my 200x and it was a rough ride and had nowhere near enough power for me. I had been eyeing the 200x for a while because it was a sweet looking trike and it had suspension and more power but not to much. I was looking more for trail riding and didn't want a powerhouse because im getting to old to be crashing on an off road vehicle from going to fast.

When I had my 86, I was quite impressed as to how it would seem to pull my weight and chug right up about anything. Im at 170 lbs I think these machines, like the Blaster/ Mojave/300EX quads had their targeted rider in mind, and were more than adequate for those riders, of the 130-165 lb range, which does also make them ideal for a lot of women, and teens.
Of those who felt it was underpowered, I am curious as to haw many of you may have just been oversized for the 200x, rather than it being underpowered.

5'9" at 150-160lb here.
The machine would seem to to chug you right along and get you up most hills, etc. It just did not do it with that by the seat of your pants feeling that I want in a sport machine.

To my knowledge, the 200x isnt weak, it will pull wheelies, it will go up hills, people use them in the dunes, and they are fast for a 200cc (192cc to be exact)... so my question to you all that think they are weak and stuff, why do you see ALOT more 200x's around than 250r's and 350x's. 350's are closer than the 250's in my view (popularity wise)

It sounds like you are taking a little offense and i want to state that none was meant by me.
The 200X compared to other machines of its era was a really nice machine. By todays standards it is pretty weak though. My first trike way back in the mid 80's was a Tri-Moto 125. That could also climb hills and pull slight wheelies. It was an auto though compared to the clutch shift of the 200X. The 200X regardless is not a bad machine, but it does lack in power after you ride something newer, or something larger. Its like all things. Street bikes for example, a 600cc is a fast great ride, but after riding the 1200cc you realize just what is missing. That was sorta what happened when I had my 200X. I was happy and it did what was needed. I then grabbed a 350X and their was no looking back. It had the power that the 200X lacked and I found myself not wanting to ride the 200X anymore. Well if you had a 110 and got the 200X the same thing would happen.
The reason that you see so many more 200X's is simple. Sales wise the 200X was around for 5 years compared to the 2 of the 350X. The 200X was the price point sport machine at the time and it was the greatest seller of the sport machines. Its kinda like the Blaster today. The best bang for the buck and the starting point of sport machines.
If you run a 200X and are happy with the ride and power that is all that matters. Just be warned that if you get on a 250R or a 350X and see what is missing, then you may not be as happy with the 200X that you are happy with now.

Lemme add the wife perspective/ opinion......Read lisnups, everything he says is true...once you taste the power of the bigger toys, its over. I love my 200x in the woods, prefer it. In the dunes it doesnt cut it. I have not seen anything to make me believe that the 86-87 models are any better then the earlier years, with the exception they are easier to work on mechanically. Awesome trail riding trike, I even like it for jumping (smaller jumps). But it doesn't even come close to the power of the high performance machines.

What I ment by being overrated was they sold to much more than they are worth in my opinion. -D

in my opinion, the 200x beats all in its area (4 strokes) granite the blaster is a 200cc 2 stroke most 200x's dont have a chance....but ive raced timberwolfs (250cc) after timberwolfs (popular around here) ive raced a ytm200, 200s, 225dx, 3 bayous (220), 325 (yes 325) polaris trailboss (not sure what it was) and the only one that had a chance was the 225dx, thats why i believe the 200x is a great machine....we dont have dunes in ohio, and i dont have a car (15 1/2 years old) gotta permit! but parents work...so all i get to ride is railroad bed (no trains) just gravel, and woods, sometimes sides of the roads.....just my .2 cents
I would like to put my 56 horsepower YTM200 next to your 200X to say you've been beaten by Yellow ;)
