Finally got a 85 200x. But upon riding it for a bit, it slipps out of first, almost at a consistent pace:cry: . I have checked the lock arm spring, and thats about it. Am i going to have to split the cases and put a new 1st gear in, or maybe a shift dogs bent? What should i check before going down on this engine?:naughty:
Thanks:beer

Good deal then. You already have the parts. I have to split mine to replace the shifter shaft and sprocket shaft. I got my gasket kit finally so I have to start aswell.

It might be the stopper arm and spring, It only happens in 1st?
Have you checked the alighnment of the shift pedal to shift shaft ?
There should be a dot on shaft and pedal If the pedal is too low on shaft
that might cause the issue?
If not when you tear it down remove the clutch case first before you get too deep
and inspect the stopper arm and spring.
And of course If It isnt the stopper arm and spring and stopper plate
then it would likely be a bent shift fork and a couple of gears lmost likely c-1
free wheeler c-4 slider maybe a few more on main shaft
Id have to dig up my manual and figure out the shift pattern .
thats what I can think of off the top of my head .
You have a manual right ?

De Da Deee I used to be an olympic diver.
m1 to c1 via c4 and out = 1st gear .
m1= is mainshaft fixed gear #1
c1= counter shaft freewheel gear# 1
c4= counter shaft slider gear # 4
and out = from countershaft sprocket to chain to rear sprocket to axle to wheels and to the ground your in first gear:Bounce I think:wondering
I guess I should have said power flow

yeah i have a manual, i got the clutch case off, head off, pulled of the cluthc and oil filter. I have to work a bit more to get the flywheel off, it might be a pain in the rump. Yeah it only slips out of first, it slips alot too, its really jerky. Im gonna go out again soon, just came in for some grub

got the cases together, having a wierd problem. Once the cases are together but not tightened down, everything spins freely, but as soon as i tighten it, it locks up, the kick starter becomes still as hell. All the thrust washers are in place, what could be causing this? I've opened it up about 6 times trying to figure it out.

I dunno I only drained the oil on mine after. But when I took out the big drain bolt something moved inside and now the bolt wont go back in. lol. I am afraid to look now.

Whata pain in the ass, after swapping almost everything, gears, shift drum, shift forks, stopper spring, star stopper, fork rod, and several splitting of the engine, it still jumps or doesnt go into 1st, it makes seems to go halfway in, so i opened it today and when i shifft to 1st, (while looking at the shift start) it stops about halfway from neutral to 1st, if i play with it i can shift it into 1st, but i want it to shift nice, im probably looking over some stupid little thing. So, any ideas? lol.
Thanks

just keep looking....i tore a kx80 bottom end apart, it was EVERYWHERE. i got it all back together, everything worked correctly, shifted good, etc. etc. BUT THE CLUTCH WOULDNT RELEASE. you pull the clutch in and it had the normal pull stiffness, i could see the clutch plates moving, but it wouldnt disengage.
turns out, i had a WASHER on the wrong side of the clutch basket causing it to hang up........
just keep taking it apart and looking for something out of the ordinary.....look at a service manual, look at the mess, look at a service manual, look at the mess.....yes, it makes it a pain in the ass, BUT when your done, taking it apart will forever be 100% easier.
just hang in there, and when you get irritated, go do something else.
also, the kickstarter on this thing wouldnt return properly after it was re-assembled. it took about 30 kicks and some riding before it worked correctly again. after its together, ride it easy for a bit, then re-check the bolt tightnesses of any bolts you can get to without tearing it back apart.
