I don't have any pictures yet, but I will soon. Anyway this is listed in my local paper with no price just "make me an offer" I have no idea what they are worth, the plastics are good, tires are good and he says it runs good, but it broke the cam chain so I can't hear it run....any ideas? Thanks!!!

Also don't know if this is a deal or not but for anyone who might be interested, in the same paper is a 1982 honda 185S runs great, needs brakes, has tank off 110.
$500.00

hey bscott, what has worked for me as a rule, if it dont start then it dont run. im with yamada, 100-200 dollars. who's to say when that cam chain broke the piston didnt come up and slap a valve. to often i try to buy a machine and the seller says well, it runs, but it wont start because..... 1st sign that it does not run unless you do some kind of work to it.

That's what I was thinking too, just assume it doesn't run since it isn't right now, I think I will just start low and offer him $100 like you said. What do these sell for in running condition any idea??

i would start at 100 and go from there..

If it have reverse, it should have electric start...

i was thinking the same, went to check the specifications page on this site tho and now it says 83 and 84 trimoto 200 had reverse, this isnt true is it? i used to have an 83 and an 85, and my buddy had an 83, neither had reverse and ive never seen one with reverse,.. just the 200 yamahaulers and the 225 trimoto had reverse right?.. but they both had electric start too so it cant be either of them... i think u got some mixed info but someone correct me if im wrong plz..
if it does have reverse then its gotta be a 225 trimoto or a 200 yamahauler but then it would have elec start.
because the 200 trimoto's had no reverse(correct?)

The chain driven 200 don't have reverse.
The 85 ytm-200E are shaft driven, electric start, reverse
My 84 ytm-200E don't has reverse

84 YTM200E here too, no reverse.

OP, Mine was bought for 400 because it ran.
I'd say at least half of that because the part you need sounds like it's gonna be a headache to get.
I could be wrong though :)
(P.S. Go yamaha :P )

It wont run because a broken cam chain... It worth maybe 75-100 to me.

Whos to say it doesn't need new valves, valve guides, piston, timing chain, rockers, or even a cam? timing chains(cam chain) don't go out alone normaly. If that broke, the engine probably worn out pretty bad. Id take the cover off the side of the head and look at the cam chain, it might not be broken.

It might need an engine.

i had a ytm 200 k and the timing chane broke cuz the auto decompression cable stuck and the valve hit the piston broke timeing chain and killed the piston and valve.

I wont pay more than 100 for a run of the mill trike if it dont run. I have gotten pretty lucky so far.

I agree about taking the cover off. If the seller wont let you look inside, you shouldnt trust him enough to buy it. That would be an indicator that he is hiding something.

I agree with the 75- 100, and young jay the drn has reverse, the dx doesn't, and like others said if the cam chain broke there is more wrong inside, has to be a reason why it broke. And also from what I understand a 185s is labeled that because of having front suspension, honda also made a plain old 185 as well so if it doesn't then it probably is not an s

The s is for sport, 185 sports. The X has suspension, 200x, 250sx, 350x. I wish it stood for suspension lol - unles they talkin bout the front.

my old 225 moto4 cam chain fell off before, there was half a million miles on it, guides were worn, tensioner was worn everything, when the timing chain fell off it didnt break anything. but if it were to break youd get some damage, its probably all wrapped up around the crank shaft in the bottom...
