$900 with shot plastics and no fire sounds kinda iffy to me. Everyone has their own value on things, but to me $900 is high for it.
Make sure you check the coolant and make sure you've got good enough compression to pop you finger off the plug hole when you kick it over.

the 250r is hard to come by in my area. i am going to go with a compression gage to check it.id do the finger over the hole trick but if i am spending 900 i want to konw its good.the average 200 big red goes for 800-1200 and i have never seen a 250r under $1500 and when i do see a 250r sold right away.the guy that is selling it answered my wanted ad. for a 250r and its been up for a year now.

Where are you located in Ont. I've got a few odds and ends for the 250R's if you need. 900 is a good price in Ont. CDI can be had off evil-bay cheap enough if that's all it is.

Compression test on a great solid cold motor should be around 170 psi. If you get into the 150's plan on a new top end right away, and it may be wise to pull the exhaust pipe and look inside the exhaust port to see the piston, check for deep scoring or bad burn marks, or excessive carbon. The former 2 will require a rebore or you will eat pistons every few weeks with no power to boot. The carbon can just be cleaned or burned off with alot of wide open throttle runs..(not really, but fun anyway)
Grab that rear axle with both hands and shake the *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* out of it. If you feel any play at all, you may want to consider it a parts bike. I have seen frozen carriers and axles that will make you HATE your bargain 250R.
Check for broken bolts around the front sprocket from the chain being thrown and look closely for any oil drips esp around the shifter. Check the color of the tranny oil also and coolant level, the seal can goon the water pump and leak coolant into the tranny, a $5 part but a nightmare to change.
If that check out look for damage around the head stem from crashes.
Good Luck!

the CDi is probably NOT bad. The CDI connectors are trouble, one loose pin and the whole thing quits.
