Hi All,

I'm currently missing the headlight on my 1982 185s. According to the manual, the original headlight had a 45w bulb. After searching the web, the only ones I've found for this model cost $40- $50 bucks after shipping. Rather than paying that much for a single light, have any of you used something found at an auto store? (more like $20- 30) Alot of the ones I looked at didn't specify the wattage which made me nervous about buying one and trying it.

If so, what is the maximum wattage the electrical system can handle for the headlight?

Any links to compatible lights would be much appreciated.

They never rate the bulbs, they are just bolt in replacement parts and mechanics are not able to do electrical calcs.

Auto headlights are usually 50-60 watts. Maybe another 20 ? for brake /running lights if it had them. Wont hurt to try an auto headlight. If it has a voltage regulator and the bulb is bigger, it just takes power away from the regulator.

If youre worried about wattage, maybe a lawnmower bulb? Vibration is the big thing. Auto headlights wont last as long.
