well if you build a nice auto-x like me you wont have any head ach in the future with scarce parts hehe.

It's very straightforward. Only thing that needs modding is the brake pedal and you need to use the 200X exhaust.

I haven't done this yet, but I plan on it.
For the brake pedal I've been told that a 200S lever will fit on the peg mount with a slight bit of grinding.
Then all you need to do is make a little bit of linkage along with a spring and it's done.
Sounds simple enough, I just haven't got around to it yet.

What's happening with the PE175 trike, TwoHundredEX?
Not much right now, I've been unemployed the last little while so funds have been low.
Applying for another job tomorrow though, and once that goes through, I'll focus on my Jeep a bit, THEN finally get the trike finished.
Planning on a new top end, rear tires, and a set of fenders, along with a rear brake system.
I figure another month or two and I'll have it pretty much where I want. But when do things ever go as planned?

I don't see much difference, all you did was weld together 2 brake pedals and make some linkage...? Which is what you do with the 200S lever, except no welding.
also if your putting a M motor in you will have to dimple the front down tube a bit for the starter to clear.

Don't grind the peg mount, instead drill out the brake peddle hole. This way the peg doesn't loose it's strength. I have bought 2 auto x's that had the peg ground and the pegs actually broke. It's a lot easier to replace a peddle than a whole frame. ;)
I have made 10-15 auto x brake peddles over the years and they aren't had to do.

keep us posted on the progress. will you be using the electric start? i got an xtra 200s bottom end ( no elec start), this would keep you from beating in the front frame. you know its yours if you want it. on the homepage under mag articles there is an article about building an auto x. i read this a couple times and it seems pretty easy, check it out. good luck with this project and dont quit till its done. lots of help on these boards and someone has an answer for every ?.

So heres the first ? is the M brake pedal the same as the S that you modify to work. I will get some pics of these babys on today maybe. I `m going to get a list of parts I will need to finish this. Thanks guys for the help so far.

Heres some pics. I have to give the x motor back, but the rest is mine. Not bad for free.

I don't think the M brake lever will work, looks a little different. That's newer than an '83 also.
'83 had the tubular swinger, so yours is an '84 or '85 unless the swinger was changed sometime during it's life.
Either way, looks good for free!

Hey bud,
I can make you a pedal for your Auto-X. Don't bother with modifying that M pedal. PM me tomorrow (Monday) and I'll get the details from you - and hook you up. I just made a new one for Shelly's since Lou got mad at it and broke the old one off! (J/K Lou!!!)

Heres a good ? How bout some ideas on a battery box for this thing. I was going to cut the one out of the M but sombody wants whats left so I`m going to spare the frame. The motor is in with a little torch work on the down tube not that bad though. Does anybody want to see pics?

Might want to PM The Goat about the battery box. He did a Lifan swap which needed a battery.
Definitely post some pics!

She's looking really good, MO dx. I'm going to use a 200M for my wife's Auto-X, too. A lot of people avoid this conversion because of the dimple in the downtube, but I think it will be worth it.

Well I got the rectifeir and solienoid mounted. And the Dx battery box worked out pretty good. I will have pics of it later tonight. Going tomorrow to jason down in hersey to trade a few M parts fr some X parts I need.

Heres a ? How important is the 7 amp inline fuse? It was gone when I got the M. Its not that hard to solder a fuse holder in there. Just wondered if anyone else doesn`t use the fuse.

great job mo looking gooood. can you give more precise detail about the down tube or did you just heat and hit?
MO dx
02-15-2008, 10:43 PM
I used a pc of steel pipe that had the right contour to the m frame. Then heated the x frame just on the inside, just a little hot circle. Then held the pipe there and gave it a good wack with a BH luckily it only took one try. There is enough gap to slide a pc of thick paper threw there and it didn`t bow the tube on the outside.

Got my pcs from Jason down in hersey today (thanks agian) he hooked me up. I have everything to finish it tommorow. Had to make a muffler fit he gave me not sure what its from but nothing a torch, welder and a little creativity couldn`t fix. Will have pics later

Pics added but dang some came out blurry. The one of the pedal was the limiter nut and bolt I welded in place so the pedal wont come up to far and over extend the master cyl.

Is that brake pedal mod just for the M swap? I have a 200S I'm going to use to make my autoX. Will I still need to mod the pedal? Nevermind. I found where it says why, and how.

There are several ways to do it, take a look at the differnt methods. I believe the 200s pedal will work. here is one simple solution I used. I drilled out the brake pedal with a step (uni) bit & just kept fitting it till it was the desired distance from the motor case. You'll have to get longer peg bolts and some washers or some type of shim (I uses a rubber shim I think too), and I used an exhaust spring so it would return faster after brakes were applied, but little springs are at the hardware store also.-
