I found a 200x trike today. But I do beleive it has a 200m motor in it . Will this work? Everything looks ok. Of course I didn't hear it run. Chain was not hooked up. What would just the roller be worth?

Sounds like an Auto-X. It'll work fine, quite a few people have done it.
Not sure what it would be worth as a roller, need to know more about it first.
Condition of the plastics, frame, tires/wheels, etc.

im pretty sure the 200m and 200e engines bolt right into the 200x frame

The 200S engine bolts in, but the M engine won't because of the electric starter in front of the cylinder. If you use an M engine, you have to either notch or dimple the downtube for clearance. I'm not sure if the E engine will fit in a 200X because the low-range transmission on the output shaft looks like it won't clear the chassis. If the trike you found has a pull starter and no electric starter, it has a 200S engine.

Oh yeah, right! I remembered that it would bolt in but forgot that starter area needed some fab work. Which means the 200e wont either cuz of the starter, and maybe the hi/lo box

I'm currently doin a rebuild on a 85 200M and was lookin to put it on a 86 200X. Honda says that the 200m engine will fit most 82-85 models but not an 86 200X. I bought a new wiseco piston but the 200x takes a differant one, does anyone know if that 200M motor will work? or could i just replace the jug from the 200M onto the 200X? Any help is appreciated.

The 86/87 200x is not nearly the same as the 83-85 200x. I don't know if the pistons interchange. (TRX200sx engines may bolt in, but auto clutch and electric starter. Starter may hit frame, but it does have reverse on the chain drive SX engine)

And 86 200x is worth decent money relative to an earlier model. Even to part it out as parts are hard to find. I'd keep the M as it is, and rebuild the X if possible.

To the original poster, I think I saw one that was seized in a scrap yard for ATV's. The downtube must be bent to clear starter motor, like all 350x frames seem to be from the exhaust hitting the downtube.

If it's in GREAT shape with no cracked fenders, no rust or anything, could be a $450-$600 trike. That's if it's great, tires, exhaust, brakes all work, seat cover, etc.

I've picked up beater 200x's for around 150 before. So it really depends on condition.
And you should be able to hear it run without a chain, just not be able to ride it. But yes, it should work.

What would just the roller be worth?Have bought 3 200x's and have one built as an auto-x (with an 82' atc 200 motor in it). 1983' 200x: $250. 84': $400. 85': $200. All running (one was for parts so is not a trike anymore). Was going to upload some pictures to help you, but computer won't allow it at this time. So a roller isn't worth all to much.

I put a M motor in an '85 frame once. Notched out the frame then reinforced it on both sides. Made a battery box behind the airbox. Worked pretty good!! A lot smoother to ride than the M.

The 200X i found is in good shape, runs and he only wants 300 for it so i think i might as well finish my rebuild with the M and have 2 good running trikes. I love these things, people that dont ride em dont understand :naughty:

ok so to put a 200 auto with a starter you will have to cute the down tube to clear the starter?

I bought a 200s engine off of Ebay for my 200x. Looks like I'm going to turn it into an autox. Only cost me $170 and the guy says it runs. It looks clean except for the valve cover gasket looks like it leaks. But that an easy fix.

Sounds good a 200s motor should bolt right in. For the valve cover there is no gasket, just use a thin layer of RTV

200 big red engine doesnt fit unless you lose the starter/notch the frame as stated above and the high low selector hits the frame right next to the chain adjustment also an area under the selector touches the frame can easily be made to work thought if you do alittle grinding but its not a bolt in and go like a 185 or 200 with out electric start. I know i just spent 2 hours trying to wrestle a big red motor in my 200x roller:(
