Hello, I am a member of www.3wheelerworldforums.com where I was recently pointed in your direction by another member.
I have seen your work and it is nothing short of impressive. The latest being a swingarm for a 200X trike that uses a 300EX axle housing. Looked great!
What I want is a +2' extended 1985 Kawasaki Tecate (pic attached) swingarm that uses a 400EX axle housing. I need it to use the stock style suspension mount and would like the material used to be chromoly steel. The lighter the better without compromising strength.
Wondering how much it would cost and what do you need from me in order to make the swingarm?
James ..aka, BigGreenMachine
i would say you are looking at about $475. plus shipping and that includes powder coat.
i would need a stock swing-arm with carrier, axle, and sprocket,( just to figure the offset form your carrier to the 400 carrier). a swing-arm with good bearing surface where it mounts to the frame would be perfect,(not oval, smashed, nice square ends)so i can get the correct width and bearing size.

Thats the jist of what we can have. Someone needs to send a 1985 Tecate swingarm, carrier with good bearings, axle with sprocket, sprocket hub and disc hub with locknuts to HREATV. I do not have the swingarm to send but I do have the rest.
Anyone want one of these swingarms? I know I do. $400 for the swingarms if we order 3 or more.
I'll send the axle, sprocket and hubs...somebody needs to send a swinger.

I am going to be sending one very shortly. I talked with him 3 weeks ago about haveing one built in the round tubeing and with a few goodies added to it . 425.00$ raw finish. I can't wait.

HREATV is making you one? What goodies? Length?
I'd be happy to order with you if it would bring down the price?

Thats a fair price...I wouldnt try to bring it down. Its every bit worth the material and labor. I have been to his shop, chatted with him, seen his work and had him do work for me. He takes it very seriously. This type of work takes a lot of talent to do it right.....His craftsmanship in RAW fabrication is the best Ive seen

I spoke with him on the phone a few weeks back. He's a super nice guy and seems like a true craftsman. I had forgotten that he was the person who built a NEW atc 250r frame. Now that's awesome! And yeah $425 for a custom arm, very reasonable price for custom work done right.

I'm in for one if it's made from square stock like the 200X swinger and not the round tubing. And I'd take it in the "white", not powder coated white!
I have a swinger I can send too.

Ok. Good. Anyone else?
Lopes is sending his swinger and stuff in soon.
I will ask HREATV to make them +2 over stock with 400EX carrier, Banshee chain guide mount and Banshee chain slider for the front to replace the Tecate slider.

BGM,
As a 2nd gen owner (86/87) I would like to suggest something. I do not have confirmation other than what I read on here before but from what I understand the 2nd generation swingarm will bolt straight on to the 1st gen (84/85) and would give you +2". I dont know if you need to use the Uni-Trak linkage from whichever model though? If that is the case, and again I don't know if it is, then I would assume the 1st gen would bolt on to a 2nd gen and give you -2". If this is the case I would recommend that HRE should jig up both +2" and +4" lengths which would provide the 86/87 an option of going +2" with being able to use current axles and the associated running gear.
Any confirmation of the interchangeability?

They do interchange with the exception of the dogbone mount. I had an 86 swinger on my 85.
As far as what HRE does that is up to them. I will order a swingarm, anyone that wishes to have one made as well should let me know. 85 owners only since all we have to go with is the 85 T3 swinger.
I WILL NOT BE ORDERING SWINGERS ON YOUR INTEREST ALONE. I WILL PAY MY COST AND YOU WILL PAY HREATV DIRECTLY IF YOU WANT ONE.
Not yelling, just making that point clear as I don't want to tell him to make 3 or 4 then get stuck with the large bill.
Also I would like to thank T3 Lopes for using his stuff to get this done, big thanks!

dont worry...the way he builds jigs this wont be a problem

All that would need to be done would be to find the location of the 86 dogbone mount. For that he would need an 86 swinger. Easy enough to do but I don't have the resources to send one in at this time. If someone else would like to then heck yeah! Giv'r! I expect a raw finished swingarm with the Banshee stuff added to be $425. I'm more then willing to spend that.

I'm going up there on saturday, I'll bring a 85 t3 swingarm of mine up with me. I have 2 of them. For you guys that don't know, HRE is building me a atc250r/crf450r trike and an atc250r w/86 atc200x motor.

All you'll need to bring is an 86 Deathman. That way he can get the dogbone mount measurements.

My '86 may get one of these in +2" w/400EX carrier and all associated opitions, but it's outta my price range at the moment(although it's a good deal). If he offers them in a few months, I'll pick one up.

I paid Mike $420 for the swinger plus $20 for the shipping. Mine is in the white, I think he charges a little more to have it powder coated.
A swinger for any current quad is going for $650 to $800, so I think it was worth every penny.

No. What Mike told me, the 400ex axle is a little wider at the bearing housing. So you'll need to use 400ex parts.

Its real nice and exciting to see alot of sweet parts being made for the 3 wheelers again. Its so hard to find a decent rear end setup for the Tecate and this option sounds like its a very worth while setup for any serious Tecate owner. Along with all of the other options this setup gives you, I like that you can finally have a nice skidplate under your Tecate as all trikes should have. Any Tecate skid plate builders out there for my Cal-Fab?

The swinger has never been mounted simply because the T3 has been torn down for quite some time. Gathering parts for its 500cc come back and this swingarm will certainly get used.
