When you have a bent valve do you have to replace the valve guide. and and also haveing it being a thousants of an inch. would that even mater.

ok thanks i had another atv shop cheak my valves, my other intake walve was bent also. would that also cause the valve guide seal to waer out. it was bent a litle more then the other one. and i checked the seats before all this, i put gas not water this time. and it leaked worse, i guess thats why it would smoke when gassing on it. but im pretty

"""but im pretty"""

we need pics to prove it!

but your valves could have smaked your piston/timing chain jumped?

i would figure out what it is before you put new valves in and bend them to....

i thank the first time when i went to rebuild it. when i tryed taking the head off we didnt take the motor out when we forced the head off we pressed the springs inrared and i thank that what bent them, how hard is it to bend the valve.

so that what could of bent my valves. scence then ive learned to take the motor out it makes thang alot easyer. what would cause rings to stick to a piston running to lean im guessing, or not the right rings?

I really feel for you guys..... I've built numerous motors and never had rings stick or valves bend, aside from when I was about 14yo and uneducated in the motor department.

But, I think some guys think it's a piece of cake and overlook allot of simple but important suff and in the end, it costs you ALLOT of cash to get going again.

Stay here, keep posting and read an OEM manual soup to nutz.

No-one can be helped with rebuilding a top end on a 4 stroke in just a few posts. There is a ton of little stuff that has to be right for it to last.

Ever wonder why OEM builds last 20 years and 30 days after someone puts rings in it's apart again??

im pretty sure, i did the rings right gap and every thange. i put new valve guide seals. and it ran right for a couple of days, then i start it up one day and it smoked for a while. then stoped after warm up. could it be the mistake that i did bending the valve causing the valve guid seals to wear out fast.

If you dont do a valve adjustment right, or dont degree the cam correctly you can cause smoking and or damage to not only the valves but allso the piston. Im more willing to bet the bent valve was causing low compression causing smoke and loss of power...

Did you clean the ring grooves good? You can use a piece of an old ring to clean them.

yeah the mecanic down, the street told me to spray the stuck rings with carb cleaner. cuz he sed the way i drive i made the rings stick by carbon build up. because i can only drive in the yard pretty much 1 st gear. on the valves i bent them cuz i didnt know what i was doing the first time i thought you could take the head off while the motor was still on the trike.

No... riding slow will def. not make rings stick... improper install and measurement will. There is a ring side clearance measurement and it does make a difference.

i checked all that this time its all good idint the first time. that might of been it.

Whats your piston to wall clearance?

350xrider911
02-07-2008, 01:28 AM
ill do the head and cuz if it was the rings cuz it would smoke all the time. it only smokes at start up then stops when its warm. but it smokes when i gas on it, i thank that due to the bent valve and it not being seated. the smoke smells like gas, but at start up it smells like oil.

Do you have a comp gauge?

350xrider911
02-07-2008, 01:34 AM
no but i wish i had one i dont know my piston to wall clearince. how much do they run and how do they run ill ask they guy down the street if he has one. when i get one do i take the decomprsion cable off.

Somekindofjerk

If you can get your hands on one just kick it over a few good times... 3-5 and see what the gauge reads. You can leave the decomp cable on.

Kickin withought that cable gives you a surprise

yeah i know i forgot to hook it back up with the wisco piston and it kicked back jammed my ankle i almost past out. and i thought they didnt help any.lol

ok thanks for the help ill get back later. if the compression is high its the valve guides.
