K and N on a Yamaha 225dx

Had a question about running a k&n on my 84 Yamaha 225dx. Was wondering if any you guys have ran a k&n on this model and if so how did it work for you. To run the k &n I have to eliminate the air box and bolt the filter straight to the carb. I dont mind losing the airbox cause the one i have is incomplete, missing parts. Would this be a good setup or should i try and find the parts to complete my airbox. I need a rear cover as well as the part that holds the foam filter and the filter.

I bought a K+N for mine and didn't have to remove the airbox.

I would just get the parts for the airbox.
