are all air cooled 250r exhausts the same?

One simple question i could not find in the search engine

is there a differnce in the first gernation (81-82) and second generation (83-83) expansion chambers?

yes there is but its every so Small, the 81-82 air higher height wize at the peack bend of the expansion chamber, if you try and put it on a 83-84 it will touch the tank. the 83-84 exhaust wont fit the 81-82 either

What if i put a first generation tank on the bike would that help the clearance issue?

wont fit correctly still, get the correct tank for the bike and have no fittment issues.
