can some one please tell me what im doing wrong or if my tensioner is just shot,i recently took the top end of my 85 350X aprt due to a noise i couldnt trace.i thought it was just valve train out of adjustment but it was not.here is what is done to the trike:10.5:1 piston, ported head,254@.050 cam with matching valve springs and titanium retainers, hardened rocker shafts, exhaust, and the rest of the normal mods.here is the problem i am having:after putting the machine back together is wa getting a rather loud and concerning "tick"so i pulled the motor back out this morning thinking it was piston to valve clearance, not the case, valve lash was set correctly as well.after discovering that the noise was the timing chain slapping i adjusted the tensioner, start the trike it is quiet as a mouse, but by the time the cam was broke in the noise was back but not as pronounced, the tensioer has loosened up again.so can someone please explain the proper technique top setting the tensioner or is it just shot????also wouldnt mind knowing how it works, thanks

its self ajusting and if its not doing its job id say the ajuster is shot or the chain is streched that bad.

if you take the ajuster off and take the little bolt off the end and look in the hole you will see a tiny flat head in there.

useing a tiny flat screwdriver you can un wind the ajuster to lossen the chain so its easyer to put on the cam.....and it should screw itself back out... if not then its bad
