They take a hell of a lot of skill to ride safely compared to 2 wheelers. Just takes some sense and training. I didnt even get on mine without training, it paid off. Never an injury.

ha, my training was more.

"here, DON'T HURT YOURSELF!" good times. thanks mom.

it takes more skill to ride a threewheeler than a 4 wheeler...but, like anything, it all depends on the user.

friend of mine used to have a 250 recon. at fifty he could spin it 180* maintaining throttle, and put it into a wheelie. while downshifting to keep the torque there, the bike would be sliding at 30+ mph in one direction, with the wheels spinning damned near 40 trying to go the other way. I've yet to see anyone besides him pull that feat off. professional or not.

it's all in the user.

My question is simple!
Why is it that a person can buy a street bike and do 120+mph, and no one cares if he will be injured or hit someone? and no one ask's about his skills. When on the other hand you need to be skilled in order to ride a trike??? In both cases the riders might fall and get injured! It's up to them how they ride and take care of themselfs. I believe that trikes are MUCH safer then a road legal street bike riden by a fool, who will most likely land-crash on someone else (car, bike, pedestrian).

Ive been around enough to see the idiots that "didnt have training and thought they could ride" and thought safety was a joke end up in the hospital.

i learned on our honda 200s, which my dad still has. then my stepdad bought me a 125trx and I flipped that thing about 10 times and when I got his 300trx i flipped that a couple of times. never flipped the 3 wheeler, just ran over my own feet. it was probably user error. oh well still fun.

the funny thing is that they make a 3 wheeler kart for old people, you know like them rascal scooters. they also make 3 wheeler strollers for babys.

Ill strap a *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**E dited* weed wacker on a baby stroller :)

The only way I have even been injured is when I ride my atc 70 its too smal for me and my feet slip off the footpegs and the rear tires run over my ankle...

It's no different than a car. It's not the vehicle, it's the nut behind the wheel.
There are those that take little chances and gradually learn the cause and affect of riding. Then there are those that have no respect for the vehicle and think they can deal with anything that happens.
As you get older, you learn to try and avoid unnecessary pain.

I've watched these dicussions, and participated in a couple, and I've thought a lot about the 3-wheeler safety question. I don't have more than a few minutes of experience on quads, so I don't know if I'm qualified to compare them. But there's no question that the geometry of a 3-wheeler makes it more likely to tip over. I've flipped every one of my trikes (except my 200s, which is odd) but I guarantee you it was rider error every time.

It seems to me that the thing that gets trike fans in an uproar is that even though we're willing to accept the responsiblity of that extra risk, whatever it may be, there's a nanny government that insists on taking away all the sharp objects and other items that might hurt us in order to protect us from ourselves. I don't remember voting for that service, but there it is.

Add to that the fact that there's a lawsuit every five seconds (not an actual statistic, I made that up) and it's easy to see why the big three ran like hell from trikes when this issue started heating up. I would too, if I was in their position. It's something that will never be reversed, sad to say.

So, we're stuck with what's left from the glorious 80's and we keep them alive here...and when someone says "Hey those things aren't safe,", we just say "Yeah, not for you," and ride off on our trikes spitting dirt on their shoes.

I really think there the same if you know how to ride one. I wrecked my old quads way way way more times than my trikes. I tipped into snow drifts before but never seriously crashed. I just broke my wrist riding my 200x yesterday because of my friend on a QUAD lost control and rear ended me tipping the trike and i put my hand down.

Actually, they do care. If the law sees you, you get your license yanked and/ or thrown in the pokey. Not to mention hefty fines. You ever see those fools popin wheelies on the freeway, speeding at 80+ in the California fog so thick you can't see 2 or 3 white lines in front of you and those chilling on top of their rides like its a magic carpet? Then, out of "nowhere" comes a bus at an intersection?

Couldnt have said it better myself, been riding trikes since the age of 9, and feel totally at home on one, the only time ive come off is from doing donuts, so my own fault really. as for quads, cant really get to grips with them as much. and they still fly over when doing donuts! Trikes every time! :beer
