I feel like I have been working on this thing forever! I am only waiting on one more shipment of parts from Honda and that should be all I need to finish! I am hoping if the shipment comes in Friday, I can finish the rest in 5-6 evenings. :D It took a while to find but I finally got some brand new OEM fenders (box in the pics) that should put the finishing touch on the X! Thanks to OC :beer I got the gas tank back from my buddy's shop tonight and I just had to post some pics of it. He is a good friend of mine, but my opinion is not biased when I say that I have had some gas tanks refinished before but I dare say this one is absolutely PERFECT! He is not cheap, but he is a perfectionist when it comes to these restoration pieces!
The only other issue I am trying to resolve is my front wheel/axle/spacer combo. For some reason the hub that I think is correct does not center the wheel in between the forks. Another hub that I have does center its mounting flange in the forks, but the bolt spacing is wider than the original and obviously requires a wheel that is different. This wider spaced hub is also a slight bit longer than the original. I have 3 different axles (I know which axle is the correct one), 3 of the same spacers and 2 different hubs. Maybe I can find someone who has an 87 front end apart and can shoot me some pics of the hub/spacer/axle combo!:wondering I hopefully will have this thing complete soon and will post some more pics when it sits on the ground finally :Bounce
I am also going to post one more pic of my newest addition to the collection, let me know what you think about it. :beer

I had Mike at Vintage re-zinc my axle so it would have the proper color/appearance. I am sure you have seen some of his work on the board!

Mike, I have'nt talked to ya in a while, I was waiting on the completion of your 87 before I headed up that way for a visit. Since you have put your 87 on the backburner for a while, does that mean I can get that dash pad and front fender from you and just replace it when I find some others??  I can see how it would be easy to put that project off for a while since all of my hair is turned gray from this one! I can't imagine having to turn around and do another!! I am sure when you complete it though it will look awesome next to that 87 SX!!

Fantastic! You are right about that tank, looks beautiful  ....... was it in need of just paint or a bit of bodywork also? Was the frame powder-coated? Love the pics, please keep 'em coming......... :beer

Looks great!!!! but i thought the 87s did not come with the honda tag on the tripples? All the pics i have seen dont have it but the 86s did. Can anyone confirm?

Hey 'Cuda. I've got an extra set of 87 trips out in the garage...... black painted top clamp with no logo. Looking at the 87 brochure if you look close there is not a tag there either?...... http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/Brochures/ATCsite/87atc200x.html I know my 86 has unpainted clamps top and bottom with the Honda logo. Maybe early model 87's still had the tag?

Intresting point, those are the clamps that came on the bike when I first purchased it, the bike looked like it had never had a bolt turned on it. So I had no reason to believe the clamps had ever been off it or changed. (maybe the original owner put the tag on there??) A frind of mine has an 87 that lives kind of close to me, I think I will run by and check his 200X out today.
