Well, In buying parts for the 200x project (86), I ended up buying an extra swingarm in order to get a carrier. So, I decided that I will make myself an extended swingarm out of the extra one, but I dont know how long I want to go. This thing will be running a slightly moded motor, (10.25:1, supertrapp with 450r headpipe, K&N, 28mm carb, and possibly a cam), and I also have a 83 250r axle which is a few inches over stock. Ive been thinkng 1-2" over, but I dont know if this will even be noticeable, or worth while, or even make it handle worse. Im looking for opinions.
Oh, btw, this machine will be a general purpose trike, used for lots of trail riding, some mild jumping, ice racing, ect.

That machine in stock form handles awesome.
The purpose of extending a swinger is to keep the front end down. I'm 200lbs and even when I'm done with my Powroll ported motor, I'm pretty sure the front will stay where I want it unless I want to lift it.
I wouldn't extend it at all, but if you feel you must then I'd keep it at 1". At which point it's allot of work and a longer chain for nearly nothing.
In the end, it's all your choice and I'mn just givin ya some feedback :beer !

I would leave it stock too... Traction is nice.. and wheelies are fun..

Thanks for the input guys. I was more or less tossing around the idea and also kinda wondering about the stock handling since I've never ridden one of these. I probably wont mess with it.

honestly, i wouldn't mind having a plus 1 or 2 on my 86... ofcourse i'm around 135 and my motor is mostly stock with a cam and exhaust... I still find that the frontend starts to pull up when i'm going up hills in anything 3rd or below...
Honestly i think a 1" extension WOULD be a waste of time for a heavier rider because i doubt it would pull off the ground without you wanting it to... unless you are going to use a new-age carrier and axle for more availability of parts..
i'm curious... what carb did you use to get 28mm?? And did you open up the actual intake manifold any before installing your carb?

This is the one and only model trike I do not think needs to be extended unless it has some crazy powerhouse engine in it...

The intake manifold is rubber sectioned so It cannot be opened up. Not to mention that the intake port on the head matches the manifold inside diameter so you'd have to open that up also - just like my ported POWROLL head :naughty:

And don't have any experience with extended swinger but I suggest you to build the engine and see after you got it running if you need to modify the swinger. This way , you won't waste your time and your money.

so once your carb matches the intake manifold, it is therefore useless to go any bigger? because that would be the bottleneck of your intake... correct???
